The Black 92 by Emper

Interesting, that’s the best way to describe it. I don’t know the original fragrance it’s inspired by but for the price it’s a really complex and memorable experience. Fragrance isn’t that present in my everyday life, so it’s a completely different scent for my nose, nothing like what you’d expect from mass-market fragrances. Aside from that pompous intro I can say it’s one of the fragrances that has given me the most contrasting impressions but that in the end I’ve loved, the hit of hay and bay leaf is very noticeable in this fragrance, in my opinion that’s what gives it that complexity and makes it not very versatile, the fig note is delicious and gives it a youthful/experimental vibe, I’m not completely sure but vetiver does take center stage at times and gives it that powdery cosmetic quality you’d expect from more aggressive beauty products. Longevity is pretty good, I’m not sure it’s a fragrance I enjoy reapplying but it has given me good performance, if I apply it at 10 in the morning I still perceive it very slightly until 9 at night. I wouldn’t recommend it for every occasion, I imagine how tiring it must be to wear this stuff at over 25°C and in enclosed spaces. I have the crazy idea that it somehow reminds me of Toy Boy by Moschino, not 100 percent but there’s something similar there, as if The Black 92 were the older brother who has taken hits from life and had to mature early, it doesn’t have the romanticism of Toy Boy’s rose and has a deeper character

It’s true, it’s a very floral fragrance leaning toward a beyond-the-grave smell hahaha, joke. It’s not for everyone, if you don’t like floral at all or like it very little, Black 92 is unlikely to please you because you’ll find it very heavy. I don’t completely dislike it but honestly I don’t think I’ll wear it regularly. I think it’s for specific occasions, hoping for mild/cold weather and that the people you’ll be with have a certain taste for that kind of scent, or in any case, that the number of people or their perfumes won’t let your smell overwhelm others, obviously not for many sprays

The funeral home comment is right, it literally smells too much like very floral old-lady perfume, even my grandma liked it. Do I recommend it? It depends, only if you know you’ll be with people who like this style of scent AND IT’S A COLD DAY AND WITH FEW SPRAYS then yes, because it even made me dizzy when I put it on one wrist and was eating, now imagine on a hot day. If you want to try it, I recommend you be careful with what you order, ask for it in the discovery set

This is a perfume for confident men with no complexes. It sounds serious but nothing stuffy. Sometimes it reminds me of Encre Noir and faint notes of Toy Boy’s rose, but very subtle. Maybe that’s what turns many people off. For me, that floral touch blends into an elegant, distinguished profile; I detect a dark bay laurel (the kind used for hedges in Chile, not the edible one) and tobacco that lasts throughout the entire development. It’s almost always cold here, so the weather is the perfect partner. I even tried layering it at the office with citrus dupes of Imagination, and it works great. It easily lasts all day and on clothes until the next day. I love it.

And yes, it smells like a funeral, like an old lady’s floral, like a guaranteed headache. Sorry, I know niche perfumes are for ‘knowledgeable’ people who ‘take risks.’ But I’d rather be simple or a beginner a thousand times than wear this. I’ll let it macerate for a few months to see if it changes, and if not, to the trash because I don’t think anyone deserves the headache this causes.
