Descripción
Santal Carmin by Atelier Cologne is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette. The top notes reveal saffron, lime, and bergamot; the heart unfolds sandalwood, guaiac wood, and white musk; while the base notes complete the pyramid with Madagascar vanilla, Texas cedar, and Egyptian papyrus.

A fragrance with its own stamp, typical of Atelier and unmistakable. Atelier Cologne makes good quality perfumes, full of color and life, luminous and cheerful. Santal Carmin opens with fresh citrus, green and terpene notes alongside a vibrant saffron, which calms with layers of spectacularly well-mixed woods, revealing a creamy, soft sandalwood heart that beats on its own, finishing with cedar, papyrus, and sweet vanilla that feels caramelized but not cloying. Santal Carmin feels young, modern, and current, with good longevity and moderate projection. Although I prefer sandalwoods that are less fresh, more cinnamon-like and dense, like Santal Noble or Sacred Wood. Rating: 5
Nice smell, but nothing more. It doesn’t stand out, surprise, or make you enjoy sniffing it. It’s a decent vanilla-sandalwood blend, but for niche prices, I feel you should expect more. The performance is disappointing, barely noticeable on the skin after a short time. The lasting power is short. We should demand more from perfumes; being pleasant isn’t enough anymore. This Atelier just didn’t convince me.
I agree with the previous comments. For me, it’s a very vanilla-forward sandalwood with a very light spicy touch. In my case, it does seem too sweet and caramelized, to the point of being cloying. It’s pleasant, with acceptable quality and that’s about it. The longevity seemed good to me, with a normal, rather soft trail. I think for that price, something more should be offered.
It smells good, but it doesn’t do anything special. It doesn’t surprise you or make you happy when you smell it. It’s a decent sandalwood with vanilla, but given the price of niche perfumes, I think you should expect more. The performance is a shame; it’s barely noticeable close to the skin and fades quickly. I think we should demand more; being pleasant isn’t enough anymore. This Atelier hasn’t convinced me.
It works well for me. Sweet citrus opening, likely from the saffron. You can definitely detect the musk, the creaminess of the sandalwood, and the galbanum which I like as a wood note. There’s a bit of papyrus and vanilla, but they’re barely noticeable. Perfect for spring and autumn, day and night. Moderate longevity with a soft sillage.
It works for me. At first, it smells like sweet citrus, probably due to the saffron. Then I notice the musk, the creaminess of the sandalwood, and the guaiac, which I love as a wood. There’s a hint of papyrus and vanilla, but they don’t stand out. Ideal for spring and autumn, both day and night. The longevity is moderate and the trail is soft.
Santal Carmin is a truly beautiful fragrance from this house. It seems more heavy to me than others (a trait that personally drives me crazy), but on my skin, thanks to the saffron, I smell the components as if they were totally natural and delicious. What a gorgeous, concrete sandalwood, and such real yet soft woods and vanilla. The opening is citrusy and masterful, showcasing every ingredient with great appeal. For anyone and any occasion, as long as you like subtle saffron. It lasts quite a while on the skin and makes me feel feminine with a masculine touch from the woods. Sometimes I like perfumes that are a bit masculine, so I recommend trying it first because it’s vigorous, like all Atelier scents. Another one for the list, by god…
So pleasant to smell; it makes me imagine a world of writers or painters in the streets of old Paris. That’s what it reminds me of, though everyone is free to interpret it differently. If anyone loves perfume and people say it doesn’t last, it’s because they don’t know that the nose gets tired. It’s impossible to smell a fragrance for 12 hours straight; after 30 minutes, you stop noticing it because your nose fatigues, but anyone seeing you for the first time will definitely notice it.
I like it. I usually prefer very feminine perfumes, but this opens up a more masculine realm for me, which is why it’s unisex. I like it even though it’s somewhat unknown to me; it feels like another chapter of my life, how nice. Reading about it and imagining what each person wants is like aromatherapy.
Santal Carmin could have been a great love for cold autumn and winter days. It’s a good unisex scent with lightly sweet vanilla (similar to Vanille Insensée from the same house) and sandalwood… but unfortunately, after 30 minutes, I detect a waxy, dirty base. I think the guaiac wood is just reacting poorly with my skin. The trail is moderate for a few hours before fading to skin scent, which lasts quite a while. Pleasant: 6/10 (9/10 without the drydown). Interesting: 7/10. Versatile: 8/10. Original: 6/10.
Every nose is different, but I’ve learned that to truly judge a fragrance—especially negatively—you need to test it multiple times in different settings and moods. At first, Santal Carmin felt strange yet familiar, neither unpleasant nor special. Upon retesting, I noticed some resemblance to Mancera Aoud Vanille, though they aren’t the same. Perfect additions to have both in my collection. It starts woody, moves to spicy, and finishes with a subtle sweetness that never gets cloying. I’ll be buying it soon.
