  I tried it at Sephora a couple of years ago, and wow, I only noticed pure cinnamon, like distilled bark. At first, I liked it, but it lacked that balsamic, smoky, or spicy touch I was expecting; something more complex. Plus, it didn’t last at all on my skin 🙁

  Rousse by SL: The moment you wear it, it releases that amber sweetness mixed with a tart mandarin note. It’s naturally aromatic, with cloves and a woody heart. It has a sensual charm that plays with the fine line between man and woman; while unisex, certain notes push it toward the feminine. I think it’s a great option for men who want to project sensuality: it’s refined, soft, and sweet. For women, it’s fantastic, captivating, and fleeting. Every time I wear it, I’m left with that balsamic mandarin trail with amber. I’m so fascinated by it that my wife loves it too. Longevity and sillage are medium, but given how delicate it smells, that’s normal. I give it 7/10.

  It starts with a nearly liqueur-quality mandarin that’s hard to beat, slowly yielding to a spicy blend of clove and a hint of cinnamon. Then the fruit emerges, like a compote of apple or apricot, very sweet and gourmand, reminding me of the cloying Ambre Narguile. After 45 minutes, the intensity drops significantly and it becomes a pure skin scent, yet it lingers: even after sweating or showering, at 10 hours it becomes more noticeable. The drydown loses the liqueur-like quality and the cold dessert touch, becoming warmer; the clove fades, leaving a blend of mandarin, cinnamon, and a soft, distinct amber. At some point, it smells like Arabie, but in the deep drydown, it’s more original. It would benefit from not fading so quickly, though I only sprayed it twice. As a reflection, perfumery in general needs less syrup; we assume certain notes are always sweet when the reality is different.

  A warm, friendly, and super-addictive oriental gourmand. Lutens wanted to recreate the cinnamon and clove cookies his grandmother used to make when he was a kid, and honestly, it smells exactly like those fresh-out-of-the-oven treats. It’s fairly linear but has great performance (excellent longevity and moderate sillage). It’s unisex and very night-time oriented; it’s intoxicating to wear and offers incredible sensuality. Perfect for a young girl on a date or a guy at a friends’ gathering who doesn’t want to draw too much attention because it doesn’t generate love or hate. It’s a cordial, almost innocent perfume. Wonderful for Christmas dinners and parties; family, partners, and guests will all love it. A very festive fragrance!
