  At first, I detect spices and pine with a sweet base. Soon it becomes clear it will be sweet, but not cloying—rather fresh. Imagine smelling a sugus candy; that’s about right for Chypre Rouge. It’s sweet yet light and fresh. The projection isn’t excessive, nor is the longevity; after 6 or 7 hours, it fades. In my opinion, it’s fairly unisex, though leaning feminine. I think it can be worn in any weather.

  A rare, incredibly rare fragrance. I tried it during an intermediate stage of my Lutens journey and already said this house was innovative. I spoke too soon, but it turned out true: I didn’t overstate it. Chypre Rouge is extremely peculiar, perhaps the most unique I’ve tried from the brand. After thinking it over, the wordplay is admirable: Chypre Rouge (Red Chypre). Chypres are usually austere and mossy; here we have a humid forest, but also a ‘chiclosa.’ Yes, it smells like cherry or raspberry gum, as oscarsh86 accurately noted. It’s a ‘synesthetic’ chypre, so original that I’m not sure when to wear it. I’d just say it feels winter-appropriate and feminine. I don’t remember the longevity well, but it wouldn’t be remarkable because intense scents don’t fade from my memory anyway.
