I remember the 90s girl spotting Perry Ellis everywhere, but I always found them synthetic and overpowering. I thought Sophia Grojsman’s 360 was the first, but she wasn’t: the genius was in charge since 1985, launching his first two fragrances. His style was a unique blend of extravagance and elegance, featuring deconstructed clothing that united chic and simplicity, which really appealed to people back then. The ad photo says it all: two models in white, elegant yet simple pieces, with the sea in the background and the slogan ‘American Spirit’. The women’s fragrance is an exquisite surprise, as it has nothing to do with what the brand released after that genius left. It’s a romantic floral with character, without the drama of the 80s, but with those unique base notes that are no longer available. As soon as you spray it, you smell sweet pineapple with aldehydes and a shy touch of violet. You have no idea how glorious it is to smell that pineapple with so well-articulated civet and amber; it gives it a divine character. Ylang-ylang and rose add the floral side. It has a light sillage, but the longevity is excellent; it doesn’t shout for attention nor does it go unnoticed. It’s refined, elegant, romantic, and simple yet substantial. The quality of the notes is extremely high. It reminds me of Clandestine by Guy Laroche, released a year later, which shares many notes, but Laroche has plum, honey, and more pronounced white flowers that slightly divert the resemblance. It’s an exquisite fragrance, an evocative and romantic floral. This review is about the Eau de Toilette; the Eau de Parfum must undoubtedly be a marvel.
