A clean, uncomplicated fragrance.
Clean, warm musk scent that’s comforting, but it fades incredibly fast and barely lingers. Not worth the price.
Smells like freshly laundered clothes—clean but without that laundry softener scent. Imagine a crisp white t-shirt or fresh boxers… it’s not meant to be overpowering.
Honestly, I read the previous comments and I’m blown away. It seems they were written without testing the fragrance much or doing so superficially. Anyway, for me, Original Musk is one of the best musks I’ve tried. Beautiful and complex; don’t look for a clean musk here, because this is quite the opposite: dirty, dense, animalic. It doesn’t stop reminding me of Kouros. It’s one of those fragrances that any ignoramus would despise as smelling like ‘old lady perfume’. Be careful with it, as it projects and lasts well above average. I really like dark musk; I love Original Musk and getting lost in its nostalgic sensations of past eras, in its layers of infinite and radiant beauty, in its dirty, herbal floral nuances… for me, it’s impressive. Note: 9.5
It reminded me of Coty Stetson.
I like Original Musk. It’s canonical, a musky wardrobe staple but far from seeming boring or predictable. It starts with something citrusy like orange liqueur (maybe the bergamot with the neroli) and then musk and more musk mixed with floral notes, which I do feel but can’t distinguish. I agree with Bofifa that it’s dirty and dense; it doesn’t convey cleanliness, it’s a domesticated filth. It reminds me of wet animal fur. It’s like arriving home from a spring rain walk with your dog soaked, coated in mud and flowers. That wet dog smell is intolerable for many people but it comforts me. I’m surprised others perceive it as clean… that’s just our associations. I have the perfume and also a roll-on with oil, and I combine them with great pleasure.
I tried it today and loved it, but it vanished in fifteen or twenty minutes. Not two or three hours—it was sooner! What a shame with such poor longevity. It could have been a great perfume if it lasted three or four hours, but it didn’t even make it. I’d rate the trail projection at 6/7 🙁
I tried it today… I loved it, but then it just disappeared. Not after 2-3 hours, but after a maximum of 15-20 minutes it was already history! What a shame for a fragrance with such a short life. It could have been a super great perfume if it lasted 3-4 hours, but not even a whisper. I give it 6 for longevity and 7 for sillage 🙁
I love it. I agree with other reviews: it doesn’t smell clean or like freshly washed sheets at all. It smells vintage, classic, and old-school. Maybe the price is high since 100ml comes close to €100 and longevity is just average, but it’s a great wardrobe staple. It’s different from what’s marketed today and a real treat, since lately all new perfumes smell the same.
Love it, matches other reviews perfectly. It doesn’t smell like clean laundry or fresh sheets at all; to me, it’s old-school, classic, and vintage. Maybe it’s pricey since 100ml costs almost €100 and the longevity is just average, but it’s perfect for a backup in the closet. It smells different from today’s perfumes, which is a plus—lately, everything just smells the same.
An attractive, sensual, and totally unisex proposal. It changes quite a bit in intensity and scent depending on skin pH and heat. Projection is moderate, and I detect it for about four hours. The aroma is beautiful, delicate, and strong at the same time, soft yet animalic. It wraps you pleasantly with a dark touch, like a good boy who transforms into a bad boy. I thank Bofifa for this excellent discovery.
Very retro and beautiful in its conception. The musk is present from the start, very well crafted. The performance isn’t great; it lasts a few hours and projection is minimal. But it’s a perfume to enjoy in intimacy. If it were different, it would be my signature…
A very retro perfume, beautiful in concept. The musk is present from the start and is very well done. The longevity isn’t great; it lasts only a few hours and fades quickly. But it’s enjoyable in intimate settings. If it were different, it would be my signature scent…
Terribly overpriced old-school musk. It belongs to the lacquers, with that formaldehyde-like, acidic packaging I don’t like. They’re essential for understanding 60s and 70s perfumery, when hippie musk oils perfumed young necks and broke away from their mothers’ colognes; it was exotic, folk, and sensual. It’s impossible to smell it without visualizing corduroy jackets, berets, and sweaters. My favorite musk is the white, sweet, powdery kind, like from the laundry, or the dirtier, animalistic ones from the East. Original Musk is an ode to old-school, rusty, lacquered musk, with a nauseating acidity that doesn’t work for me. It smells like classic Jovan and Astor scents, with Kiehl’s version being slightly finer. It has phases: it opens boldly and fecally, then filters out those dizzying currents that were once avant-garde. When tonka and musk spark, it smells like hairspray, something metallic and bubbly. The animal notes drop in tone; you can sense a floral and citrus current, a creamy paste with an old-world aftertaste, half-Oriental or Egyptian, giving it sweetness. It’s not very fresh. The dry-down on skin is the typical Jovan-style, lacquered scent that melts into the skin like a sensual second skin. To an inexperienced nose, it might sound unbearable and old, but it’s not. It’s a charming, well-constructed formula. I didn’t like it because it’s not my thing, but it’s a well-made, quintessentially 70s perfume. 50 ml for nearly €50 for a basic, repetitive EDT feels expensive. The bottle is pretty, but I prefer understated ones. A bottle doesn’t make a perfume. Even if it’s moderately good, I found it pricey. There are better things in that price range. Probably, I’ll buy worse quality stuff at higher prices because I love them. P.S.: Excellent longevity despite low projection. I put it on at 6 PM, and it was still there at 10 PM. I showered and it remained. I washed my hands before bed and it was still there. I slept six hours, and when I woke up, it was still there, weak but persistent. I washed my hands again for my contact lenses, and by noon it was still stuck to my hand.
A terribly overrated seventies musk. Of the various types, this is one of the lacquered ones, with that formaldehyde-like, acidic packaging note that I don’t like. They’re essential for understanding the history of the sixties and seventies, when hippie musk oils perfumed young people’s collars and broke away from their mothers’ colognes; it was exotic, folk, and sensual. It’s impossible to smell it without visualizing corduroy jackets, berets, and sweaters. Wow, Love Story. My favorite musk is the laundry kind: white, sweet, and warm like river water—the nineties, woody, and herbal scents from Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. Also the dirtier, animalic ones from the East, fecal like civet or castor. The one carrying Original Musk is an ode to seventies musk: rusty, lacquered, with a nauseating acidity that doesn’t work for me—not because it’s dirty, but because it’s heavy. It smells similar to classic Jovan and Astor scents, though this Kiehl’s version is a bit finer. It has phases: it opens boldly and fecally, then that nauseating current filters through. It was avant-garde, smelling like hairspray; when the vanilla and musk spark, it always smells this way, like aldehyde, something metallic and bubbly. The animalic notes drop, and you can sense something floral and citrusy, a creamy paste with a slightly old-world, semi-oriental aftertaste that adds sweetness, but it’s not very fresh. The trail on skin is the typical Jovan-style, lacquered scent that melts and lingers for hours like a sensual second skin. To a novice, it might smell unbearable, old, and musty. It’s not. It’s a charming, well-made formula. I didn’t like it because it’s not my vibe, but it’s a well-made perfume, a seventies youthful lotion. The bottle is pretty, though I prefer understated ones. The perfume is moderately good—a lacquered, handmade musk—but I find it pricey. 100ml costs almost €100. There are better options. Probably I buy expensive things because I love them. P.S.: Excellent longevity despite low projection. I put it on at six, and it was still there at ten. I showered and it remained. I washed my hands before bed and it was still there. I slept six hours, and when I woke up, it was still there, faint but persistent. I washed my hands for my contact lenses, and by noon it was still clinging to my hand.
It lasts well on my skin for the first hour, then becomes very light, almost invisible after three hours. Right after applying, it smells like old hairspray; once it dries, the musk and tonka come through. It’s a musk that’s both dirty and clean… It’s decent, but I think the price is too high for what it is, even though I adore the scent. I’m not sure I’d buy it again given its poor longevity, even for an EDT.
On my skin, it lasts well for the first hour, then becomes very light, sticking close to the skin and barely noticeable after about three hours. At first, it smells a bit like old hairspray, but as it dries, the musk and vanilla come through. It’s a dirty yet clean musk… It’s okay, but I think the price is high for what it is, even though I love the scent. I’m not sure I’d buy it again due to the poor longevity, even for an EDT.
A perfume made of paradox. It’s both liked and disliked at the same time—a pleasant contradiction caused by the scent of an older person; but the addiction comes from its animalic side, the delicious musk.
Olfactory paradox: I love it and hate it at the same time. The contradiction is pleasant, even if the association with older people’s scents is annoying. The addiction comes from its animal side, that delicious musk.
