It’s back in my collection. In my teens, it was my ‘clean’ scent (like soap), easy to wear. It’s not a luxury price, but it’s worth it. Some might call comparing it to Chanel No. 5 heresy, but I prefer Jovan Musk because it’s less sweet. Both convey cleanliness.
My mom’s timeless classics: Shalimar, Chanel No. 5, and Jovan Musk. To me, Jovan Musk smells like her in her youth—bell-bottom jeans and a 70s sweater. It’s sexy, earthy, and musky. It has an aldehydic facet that softens everything, as if ylang-ylang is dancing behind the scenes with them.
Super soft and rich fragrance, perfect for nurses or anyone looking for something light yet long-lasting. The oil version lingers on the skin even after a shower!
Fantastic! It smells clean, soapy, and warm. It has good longevity and sillage for such an economical cologne.
I love it… The first time I smelled it was at a classmate who wore it in abundance and it remained a beautiful scent, not overpowering or annoying. She never told me the name (I understand her, perhaps she wanted to be unique), but I saw some golden stripes and an orange background and dedicated myself to finding it. Sadly, back then, even though it was cheap, I was a student with no money except for essentials, and perfumes were essential but not in my budget. So it stayed in the oblivion of my memories, but not in my olfactory memory. Years later, I stumbled upon this at a supermarket. With nostalgia, I took it and ‘dusted’ a little on my wrist, just to remember. And then… there it was, again. So, clean, light, simple, yet becoming noticeable. It didn’t produce memories for me, but sensations. Just by closing my eyes, it enveloped me without fuss, without madness. We met again and now we won’t separate; we went back home together. Please forgive this dramatic lapse, but the encounter between Jovan Musk and me wasn’t between a perfume and a woman; it was like when you want to be with someone but can’t, and then something happens and you find them, merging in an embrace with that special someone. Its clean and soft scent I love for after a shower, on hot summer nights; falling asleep with it is a delight. Also in summer, when the heat becomes suffocating on public transport, feeling it caress my face to calm my desperation makes me feel freshly showered and fresh, and makes the wait for the arrival less oppressive. What can I say about when my little girl hugs me and says ‘mmmh mommy, you smell so good! you smell like water’? Without a doubt, it’s a perfume that never goes out of style, suits any age, lasts a long time, and leaves a delicate and very pleasant sillage. On my skin, it doesn’t change much, and I don’t need to apply it more than once; once is enough. And the best part: since it’s not a trendy perfume, few people use it, so you can feel unique, fresh, clean, and different.
I love it… A coworker wore it heavily once, and it was gorgeous without being overwhelming. I searched for years without money and it faded from sight, but never from my memory. Today I found it at the supermarket, and upon applying it, there it was! Clean, light, simple yet present. No fuss, we found each other again. It’s perfect for post-shower, summer nights, or cooling down in transit. My daughter says it smells like water. It never goes out of style, lasts a long time, and one application is enough. You feel unique.
Anggy, your review moved me. The same happened to me, but with Loulou by Cacharel. Reconnecting with a desired fragrance from the past that we couldn’t get and that brings back good memories is magical.
My mom is married to this fragrance. Wherever she goes, people ask what she’s wearing. It’s a scent that has been in my family. My mother used to spray it on me and my sister (and we carried it around for 8 years). It works for any age, any moment, and any budget. It’s unique. Now I’m looking for a perfume that identifies me, because this is my mother’s scent.
Another cute, elegant, and incredibly affordable classic. Jovan Musk is simple but well-executed; it doesn’t smell cheap. It’s economical but underappreciated. It smells of musky white flowers with a hint of lemon and creaminess; as it dries down, it smells clean. It’s linear but versatile, suitable for any time of day. Its trail and longevity are gentle. Great applause!
Does anyone know where to get this perfume in Argentina, Buenos Aires? Thanks.
Another classic: very pretty, elegant, and at a fantastic price, yet underappreciated. Jovan Musk has a simple but well-balanced and achieved composition. It doesn’t smell like a cheap or common perfume; it’s economical but hasn’t been given its due value. It’s misunderstood. It’s intense and feminine; few young women today would appreciate it, but those who find its beauty are lucky. It smells of very musky white flowers with a touch of lemon, creamy and clean once it settles. Whoever wears it, you notice. It’s linear but versatile, looks good at any time. Nowadays, its sillage and longevity are soft. A big round of applause for this classic.
I also tried it in a small bottle. I like its musky and white floral scent; quite good for the price.
Jovan Musk smells like maternal love, as if the musk is hugging the jasmine and neroli. It’s comforting when you need a breather. Soft but noticeable. Lasts about 6 hours. In my opinion, it’s the best affordable fragrance I’ve tried.
Jovan Musk smells like maternal love, as if the musk is embracing the jasmine and neroli. It’s comforting when you need a moment to breathe. Soft yet noticeable, it lasts about 6 hours. For me, it’s the best budget fragrance I’ve ever tried.
I bought it as a teenager for the low price and absolutely loved it. At first, it smells strong, but over time it transforms into a pleasant, musky, and amber scent. I used it daily and bought it whenever I could. Now, every time I smell it, I remember that complicated but beautiful time, full of dreams. It’s an ageless classic. Although I now prefer floral-fruity scents, I still like this one just as much as before. It doesn’t seem sweet, but rather elegant. I will definitely buy it again.
I bought it in my teens for the low cost and loved it. At first, it was strong, but by the end of the day, it left a musky, ambered scent. I wore it daily and bought it whenever I could. Now it reminds me of that complicated but beautiful time. Although I lean more toward florals now, I still like this one. It’s not sweet; it’s elegant. I’ll buy it again.
Affordable, simple, and warm aroma. It’s a classic that brings back memories for almost everyone. For me, it takes me back to childhood. I have the oil version with a soft trail and moderate longevity. I like it on its own or as a base for other perfumes. It’s worth it. Scent 6/10, Longevity 6/10, Sillage 6/10, Value for Money 8/10, Versatility 9/10, Packaging 5/10. Would I buy again? Yes.
Smells cheap but it’s a classic: warm and simple. It brings memories to almost anyone; for me, it brings back my childhood. I have the oil version, with a soft sillage and medium longevity. Ideal alone or as a musky base for other perfumes. Worth it. Scent 6/10, longevity 6/10, sillage 6/10, value for money 8/10, versatility 9/10, packaging 5/10. Would I buy it again? Yes.
But isn’t this the Margaret Astor Musk? It doesn’t appear on Fragrantica. I suppose it’s discontinued.
This perfume has been sold for decades. Its longevity is due to its price suitable for everyone. I remember its image in my adolescence: a young girl almost without makeup, a fresh look. It was sold as a seduction perfume, female pheromones, nature attracting. I would have loved to use it back then but didn’t, so I bought it now… and I don’t. The bottle is very simple, uglier than in the Fragrantica photo: simple transparent glass with the name and a metal cap, similar to Revlon’s Charlie. As soon as you apply it, you smell alcohol, then synthetic, like hair lacquer. Then the soapy scent appears, like bath gel or perfumed cream. It’s not that you smell perfumed; it’s like you just had a good shower with all the works. Maybe that was the advertising idea, but it doesn’t work for me in this stage of my life; I don’t feel good with it. Also, it hardly lasts on the skin; a bit more on clothes, but still not much.
Simple but highly effective musk composition. Smells like detergent soap and clean sheets. There are niche perfumes like this with a more refined opening, but they end up just like Jovan. Others complicate everything and lose the cleanliness as they dry out, becoming heavy and musty to justify the price. Here, it’s simply a clean ambient scent. I, as a man, use it to mist sheets, pillows, and freshly made beds. If you don’t say anything, people will say ‘clean laundry’! And on skin, it’s the same! I’ve tried many niche musks that don’t come close to this concept. Of course, it depends on whether you like it; it’s not shampoo or a 5-star Parisian hotel bar soap. It’s clean, like a normal family’s bed sheet, not a millionaire’s bed sheet aromatized with flowers until they stink and snore while watching TV. I’m not sure if I can identify it as a perfume; it could pass for the natural scent of detergent cleaning. I like it for misting the bed or wearing a freshly laundered t-shirt. Better musk than most designers. After a while, at the office or on the street, it’s hard to identify, but in the car or on the bed, you notice the clean scent lasts hours and gets ‘enriched’ with your own scent.
Rich aroma, smells exactly like those talcum powders. Very similar to Avon’s Timeless, just in case you’re looking for a dupe. Personally, I recommend it for adult women.
Elegant, timeless, and totally unisex. The classic clean laundry scent, as they say. Ideal for smelling good without pretensions, without giving anyone headaches or bothering anyone. It’s the concept of ‘clean laundry’ that niche brands sell for a high price today, but it originated 50 years ago. Why does it stay on the market? Not because it’s cheap, which it is, but because it’s good.
Jovan Musk oil. I never had high expectations, but what a pleasant surprise. I’m fascinated by it; I love it on its own and combined (it gives a special touch to other perfumes). It’s affordable, though prices have risen a lot nowadays. It had an incredible boom from the 70s to the 90s; my oil seems to be from the early 90s. Today, musks are trendy, and this doesn’t back down to any niche brands. It’s the quintessential white musk—celestial, smelling of improved skin, transforming your aroma into something sweet, clean, luxurious, and slightly powdery, insanely sexy. You can detect neroli, orange blossom, a bit of jasmine, lots of white musk bathed in tamed aldehydes that add warmth and cleanliness. If you use it as a base for any perfume, it’s magic: it boosts it and gives it a divine touch. I think it’s totally unisex. Although it seems soft, it lasts about 8 hours on the skin, very discreet but always with you. If you see it, don’t pass it up; it’s a must-have for any occasion.
My grandmother’s perfume. Every time I smell it, I’m transported back to my childhood visiting her and my grandfather. At first, it’s strong, an intense musk that shows its full development, though it fades a bit over time. Then the white flowers emerge, giving a sense of cleanliness. I sense the bergamot with floral, herbal, and even resinous nuances rather than citrus. If you use too much, it can become overwhelming.
Total cleanliness. I imagine many niche brands try to replicate this but end up messing it up with snob notes to sell it expensive to the undecided. Jovan Musk beats them all: it’s clean, with jasmine and neroli that make it soapy in a tender way, reminding me of hotel bar soap. It evokes freshly sun-dried laundry with pretty white flowers. It’s gorgeous; I love spraying it on my neck without overwhelming anyone. It’s a classic for diverse audiences. My only complaint is that it doesn’t last long, which is strange since my skin usually holds perfume well. I applied a lot, and it still fades quickly. I read they use it in layers, but I just want to smell like Jovan Musk and nothing else. Affordable price, found in pharmacies and supermarkets. They have travel sizes, bless them for still existing. Fragrantica says the oil works better; I’ll have to try that. My bottle is less than a month old; maybe it needs to mature. I recommend using it at home for sleep: clean dreams, haha.
Pure, clean aroma with a soft talc note, just like right after a shower with only lotion and skin. It’s so crisp you don’t need to add anything else. Timeless, wearable all day, all year, and even unisex. You don’t need 200 notes to smell good; sometimes the best thing is remembering the beautiful perfumes of the 90s. You don’t need to spend a fortune on big brands to smell precious. My mom used it in her youth, and I only knew about it years later; I regret not trying it sooner. It’s incredible.
Smells like the younger, softer sister of Chanel No. 5. It’s my perfect sanctuary when I want to escape sweet, overpowering scents. Even though it’s cheap, a few sprays last me hours with a gentle trail. Delicate, feminine, and lovely—perfect for home or going out. A classic I’ve loved forever.
