  • My story with this fragrance is one of unfulfilled desire and heartbreak. It’s such a shame that it no longer exists—discontinued and lost forever in a sea of unjustly forgotten perfumes. How often do I think of it… Forest Rain was meant to be a shared gift, thanks to its unisex vibe (more masculine than feminine, yet performed beautifully on women). Turns out Kiehl’s, a brand I usually don’t care about, gave birth to the only scent that truly breaks my heart when I realize I could have had it and let it slip away. When I finally decided to go buy it, just a few days after trying it, they told me they’d just pulled it from shelves. It had flown off the shelves, and the little that was available online was way too expensive. And here’s the kicker: I had no money at the time. I’d rather spend my euros on travel. I thought maybe they’d bring it back. All that’s left of Forest Rain are memories, sensations, and a painful yet beautiful status of impossibility that I’m embarrassed to admit. Where are you? Why don’t you come back? Why didn’t you let me try? It was a scent that left an indelible mark on me, almost emotional. Soft, cool, soapy, like an elegant shaving lotion, and yes, to him—the person who was in my life and is gone. Just as he left, Forest Rain did the same, reaching that legendary status of what could have been but wasn’t. It was so well-made, with incredible longevity and staying power. It was pure forest, magnificence, hundreds of promises.
