  Extreme! The opening hit me with childhood memories: a distinct, penetrating scent dominated by an overwhelming amount of vetiver that swamps almost everything else. Maybe if you listen closely, you can catch hints of mandarin and juniper, with an alcoholic start that reminds me of gin and herbal liqueurs. Overall, it smells like inhaling camphor balls, with a mentholated vibe like Vick Vaporub and a medicinal base reminiscent of Espidifen. Ugh, too much for me… Even as it evolves, keeping that balsamic feel while woody notes (pine) and even moss appear, I just don’t get its charm. It’s purely masculine, and to be honest, I’d never wear it. That said, it has nothing to do with Red Vetiver, Terre d’Hermès, or the Encre Noire trilogy. If you love old-school colognes and vetiver, give it a try. Perfumery greetings.

  Le Loden is, quite literally, a top-tier vetiver: dark, aromatic, with a solid structure that’s immediately noticeable. It starts spicier and lighter, then picks up a camphoraceous note from the geranium before the dense vetiver really opens up. It works well for me; it’s very masculine and has great longevity, though to me it reminds me of the Encre Noire line, especially Al Extreme, just with a bit more quality. Others might pick up more nuances, but Lalique’s price-to-quality ratio is unbeatable, so if you have to choose, this one falls a bit short. Still, trying it out and comparing is the best approach. Rating: 7/10. Tested from the official Discovery Set.
