It’s a very distinct and uncomplicated fragrance, far from what’s abundant on shelves today. This golden edition smells different but keeps the DNA of the original: a classic spicy masculine scent, with fewer modern synthetics. It’s softer, floral, and has a sweet touch; it starts less aggressively but with more citrus, lots of orange and more lemon than the original. Leather appears quickly, though it seems there’s more castoreum than leather, and the good thing is it’s not as harsh; it balances well with the floral part. The flowers are stronger and more persistent (you can notice carnations, iris, and maybe pink geraniums), and the cinnamon is even more present. I imagine this as a variation of Chanel No. 5 for a male audience. The cinnamon contribution varies; sometimes it’s just right, other times it’s too noticeable. If we add a bit of amber and vanilla, the golden edition will be ready to enjoy; it lacks the aggression of the original, but that’s not a crime because this flanker is rounder, warmer, and compared to modern masculines, more pleasant and versatile. If it’s better this way, everyone should decide by testing both, since the original lives off its leathery character. Knize Ten Golden can be seen as a rebellious son expressing his individuality differently, and he does it very well, although I think it’s essential to sniff it before buying.

The opening didn’t really do it for me; I noticed a strange smell with a note that really threw me off, I didn’t know what it was but I didn’t like it. As it dried, that unpleasantness faded and left a quite good dry-down of leather, amber, some vanilla, and flowers. I believe no note prevailed over the others. If not for that initial note, I would take it into consideration. I’m sure others don’t mind it and enjoy the perfume, but I can’t. The longevity and projection are good.

I wasn’t hooked at first; something felt off that really threw me off my nose, I didn’t know what it was but I didn’t like it. As it dried, that unpleasant smell disappeared and left a very good base of leather, amber, a touch of vanilla, and flowers. Actually, I think no single note dominated the others. If not for that opening, I would consider it. I’m sure others don’t experience this and enjoy the perfume, but not me. The longevity and projection are good.
