It kicks off just like the original Caron with that dominant lavender, but then the amber adds a touch of sophistication. After a while, the amber, vanilla, and a soft musk base blend so nothing stands out over the others. In the end, the vanilla takes over, kept going by a musk that lingers for hours. Decent performance; projection isn’t huge, but you can smell it for hours without issue. Good longevity. It’s a men’s fragrance, but with that vanilla and amber twist, a woman could wear it perfectly. I recommend it for cold or temperate climates, though it worked well for me in the heat without being cloying. Great perfume: very similar to the original at first, but later on, without losing its DNA, it’s quite different. Personally, I prefer it because it feels less dated and more pleasant. Recommended.
It starts just like the original Caron, with lavender at full blast, but then the amber adds a touch of class. After a bit, the amber, vanilla, and a soft musk take over the scent; the lavender is still there, just more integrated. In the end, the vanilla wins out, boosted by a musk that makes it last for hours. Performance is decent: projection isn’t crazy, but it’s noticeable, which counts. Longevity is also good. It’s a men’s fragrance, but with that vanilla and amber note, it suits a woman perfectly. I recommend it for cold or temperate weather, though it worked well for me in the heat without being cloying. Great perfume: equally similar to the original at first, but later on, very different and less dated. I prefer it because it’s more pleasant. Recommended.
If we compare it to cooking, it’s as if great French chefs wanted gourmets to eat less, simplifying recipes while demanding top-tier ingredients to preserve the original flavor. That’s exactly what Impact does. Although the original ‘Pour Un Homme’ (the vintage literally gets ‘eaten,’ not the new version) still shines like a diamond and has many fans, including mine, it feels a bit ‘retro.’ It’s excellently composed but feels somewhat dated today. Richard Fraysse has taken up this iconic fragrance to modernize it without completely revolutionizing it. Impact is drier, greener, denser at the start, fresh, and ‘modern’ compared to the original, though of course, it lacks the classic’s major innovations. Redundancies have been cut, and the scent profile streamlined to offer a more specific trail. They’ve reduced the notes, focusing on the essence of Pour Un Homme: lavender (toned down) and vanilla, with an amber that blends in almost immediately. It’s a perfume that gifts you calm and serenity, like moving to a countryside home for a while to reclaim that inner peace we city dwellers lose amidst car noise, shouting, and the chaos of lights.
