  • A fragrance with classic, substantial complexity—old-school nuances but a very rich modern oriental. The spicy opening with cinnamon prevents the dessert-like drydown from being overwhelming; the sweet patchouli blended with balsams wraps everything up. Then, smoky musks and warm animalic notes emerge, giving it character and depth, with no room for fresh or floral elements. It’s all dense. Labdanum heats it up like a maxed-out oven to keep it from becoming gourmand, while vanilla sweetens it like a five-story wedding cake filled with meringue. Finally, rich powdery musks, like clouds of powdered sugar floating over that cake. If you like well-made animalic fragrances, this is excellent—one of my favorites. Rating: 9.2.

  • I was gifted a decant of Ylang 49 back when I bought it, and I just remembered I still had it tucked away somewhere. Respectfully speaking, and as a Le Labo fan, it literally smells like ‘poop on a diaper’ after just 10 minutes of wearing it, and it’s addictive. I’ll update this soon with a proper analysis and a concise review.

  • Seven hours later… The diaper note has disappeared, the fragrance is still on my skin, noticeable but less intense. Now it’s a delicious musky part resting on a soft, rich vanilla, with barely any amber left. I’d use it as a personal treat; I can’t see myself wearing it in a specific context because it’s animalic, though that might just be my lack of experience with this type of scent. On paper, it’s clean, elegant, and subtle. I recommend it to anyone wanting to explore more Le Labo proposals, since they’re not just Santal 33 and The Noir 29. I give it an 8.5 out of 10.

  • I got a measly 0.75 ml sample when I bought Baie 19, without an atomizer. I was about to leave a favorable review, but then I read about the Dr. Talco diaper smell, and my inspiration vanished 😅. If it smells good, it’s sweet, but it’s nothing special from the brand, especially not for the price.

  • I picked up the decant at a Le Labo store in London. In the end, instead of what I was going to grab, I went with Labdanum 18, a splurge. Smelling it straight, it reminded me of Loewe’s Gala. My mom had a beautiful blue and gold bottle she was gifted; she used it as a room spray because it ‘smelled dirty,’ but to me, it was a gem, and she’d always sneak it on me. Number 18 smells a bit like that: dirty, old, like dried urine but friendly and sweet. I loved it. It doesn’t last long on the skin—less than you’d expect for the price—but it lingers much longer on clothes.
