  Elisire is a rare brand in Spain and around here, but they do make good perfumes. I tried their ‘Desired’ and was disappointed, so I hoped ‘Hautbois’ would be better, especially with all that marketing about the ‘power of oud’. But as soon as I smelled it, another huge letdown. The scent just bores me; it reminds me of the overdose and repetitive combinations found in commercial perfumery: coumarin-ethyl maltol or excessive use of super-amber molecules like Ambrocenide, AmberExtreme, or Norlimbanol. These are easy paths for perfumers to follow sales trends, but they don’t make great perfume. After this, I realize there’s not a trace of oud in Hautbois. Of course, the trend is to jump on the oud bandwagon because saying it smells like patchouli or galbanum wood doesn’t have the same pull. The top notes are undetectable. The spicy accord smells very synthetic and undefined, just like the smoky notes. Add to that the ambers pushing from the back without restraint with an overwhelming projection; only woody notes from the patchouli, but without a quality woody accord. It’s not a rough or characterful perfume; it simply lacks balance and charm. I can’t see any reason to wear it compared to other woody scents. Cheers.
