  Tabu with its animal and amber touch, 20 Carats with herbal and tobacco notes, and Emir with musk, wood, and leather. All three feature incense, though it stands out the most in Emir. Emir aimed to go deeper into the oriental side of Dana’s previous fragrances and succeeded with doses of wood, incense, and leather. It still retains a floral facet that plays with the rest. The opening is slightly citrusy, then moves to woods, incense, and finally a subtle but interesting leather; I like that it’s understated because otherwise it would unbalance the composition. Just as Tabu was born inspired by sensuality and provocation, 20 Carats represents luxury and jewels, while Emir captures the essence of Persian high society, those warm and aromatic nights of Arabia. It’s no surprise that a bottle of Emir was found among Frida Kahlo’s belongings; clearly, like many other women, Frida was also seduced by the concept and scent of the fragrance. Not surprising since she already used another creation by Jean Carles, ‘Shocking’. An interesting proposal from Dana and a must-have for anyone who enjoyed Tabu and 20 Carats.
