  • What a total mess. I don’t know if it was the blue liquid that suggested it, but the moment I smelled it, I had a very precise idea: a mix of a Spanish cemetery and artificial ocean. I didn’t know that ‘clou’ means clove in French, but it definitely smells like it—you notice it immediately at the first whiff, even at 200 revolutions. The Spanish cemetery vibe comes from the carnation; it’s not common here, but it has clove nuances, especially when it wilts. That’s the scent I instantly associate with a Spanish cemetery, something reminiscent of Maja de Gal, dried flower wreaths, and spicy notes. As it settles, because the development isn’t very complex, it becomes more shrill, insidious, and artificial. It’s like one of those ultra-spicy cinnamon chewing gums, the hot tamales kind, mixed with Burt’s Bees lip balm, Lush Karma, the first Comme des Garçons, minty-orange toothpaste, scented candles, mouthwashes that are somewhat caustic yet gritty, spicy, fluorescent, and very synthetic oceanic. It horrified me. Plus, it gets stuck in your nose and palate, numbing you like a hangover; it’s very unpleasant until it fades, leaving a soft, spicy orange-clove tone that’s more bearable. It’s like a muscle ointment and a thousand other things that shouldn’t be in a perfume. If someone gave it to me as a gift, I’d be furious. It also feels super thick and plastic, and for over a hundred euros, I’d expect something else from a perfume. P.S. The literal translation of ‘Des clous sur une pelure’ is ‘nails on a peel’ or something like that, inspired by the French tradition of placing cloves on half an orange to scent the home. We do it in Spain too, but on a lemon.

I tried it and loved it. I stayed for a while to let it settle because it was a scent I’d never smelled before. As many say… it blew my mind, especially for this hot season. I notice it’s fresh but potent; I applied it and left the perfumery without stopping to smell myself. The only downside is its longevity; it doesn’t last as long as I expected. As for projection, brace yourselves: I don’t smell any orange at all, what I notice most is nutmeg and clove (in the first whiff). I’ll definitely buy it tomorrow, even though I was going to buy others. It’s not for everyone, so test it first. Very fresh and invigorating. It’s like a super refreshing blue juice, projecting, and one of the rarest.

I’ve already picked it up and I have to say, it’s not as fresh as it seems. It has a touch of orange or peel, something bitter and mature, very subtle, followed by clove and nutmeg everywhere. Don’t apply more than 3 sprays or you’ll get the opposite effect. This perfume isn’t for everyone; I think it’s more for trained noses or those who’ve been in the niche world for years. TIP: few sprays, no more than 3. You’ll leave a different, attractive, and exclusive trail. It’s a love-it-or-hate-it perfume. Try it first; it’s not for everyone. But I’m in love with it, always in small doses. Basically, it’s for the bold and confident.

  • It smells like a cleaning product, like floor cleaner. I don’t know the price, but I wouldn’t pay more than €5 for that. Warning: the dry-down scent is quite different from what you smell on the skin. And don’t get fooled by that orange opening.

  • It’s not the typical citrus that tricks you at first. It caught me off guard because initially, you think you know what to expect, but the dry-down surprises you with good things. After half an hour, it stops being a cheerful citrus and introduces a certain darkness that’s fascinating. The clove and nutmeg do their magic; the orange is still there but no longer dominates, allowing that seriousness that sets it apart from the classics. On my skin, it’s been projecting for over 7 hours. By the way, on the other hand, I have the Ecrin de Fumée, another gem from the brand that’s going into my collection. Advice: it’s not a standard citrus, so go try it at Julia before buying. Be careful, it has a very deep blue that stains the skin, so keep that in mind. Don’t overdo it; more than 3 sprays is way too much.
