Coco by Mercadona

I wanted to like it because I love coconut. But it doesn’t smell like coconut. To me, it smells like nothing. The first few seconds are pure alcohol, like disinfecting me, and then… nothing. Literally nothing. Maybe only on my skin. What a fiasco, jo 🙁

Memories of my adolescence… Mercadona launched the Monogotas, with matching shower gel, right when I started fitness at 15 and carried everything in my bag. Since then, it’s my summer cologne. I love that cloying coconut; I can’t find a Splash that matches. I love smelling cloying in summer! 😤 I checked the notes: top of sugar and vanilla, heart of coconut and coconut milk, base of amber and frangipani. Long-lasting and durable for the price. Wish they’d bring back the shower gel. I’m addicted to tropical coastal scents; coconut is my summer. I slather on oil, drink cocktails, and love smelling like coconut. I can’t find anything better. The Coco Monogotas is the best so far. Wish some brand would make something more sophisticated and long-lasting 🙏🏼. With Tahitian Monoï oil, I feel like a Mediterranean goddess. It only costs four euros, but it would last longer.

A fiasco that doesn’t last even half an hour, though I expected that for the price. In terms of scent, little coconut; to me, it smells like cheap vanilla. I use it for staying at home or mixing with other perfumes.

So far, more Mercadona fragrances have surprised me well rather than poorly. Monogotas Coco was not the case. It’s hard for me to like a coconut perfume (even the beach bar one with cheap sunscreen), but I couldn’t with this. After the blast of pure alcohol came an artificial smell and burnt sugar that never improved. Not for me.

Hello!! This Monogotas has the worst opening of all I’ve tried. Horrendous, as synthetic as it gets, and unpleasant. That sensation takes longer than expected to fade and doesn’t vanish all at once, but gradually. After half an hour, that repulsive smell is forgotten, and finally I can smell it without dying trying. For me, it’s not coconut, but a very strong and sweet bourbon vanilla, not pastry-style, accompanied by a sunscreen smell with a coconut aroma. I hate the opening and don’t like the development either, but when I smell it on my partner, it doesn’t bother me. Incredible longevity, about 10-12 hours, with a soft sillage except at the start, which is explosive. For the price, you can’t ask for more. Ideal for everyday summer wear, especially for young girls. Another one that hits like a blast upon application. You have to wait half an hour for it to soften. Then it smells like coconut oil or bronzer, or an industrial sweet like Bounty. Sweet and synthetic, a bit petroleum-y. Lasts quite a bit and is very economical.

Cheap but it delivers. At first, it smells strongly of alcohol, unpleasant like many in its class, but it dissipates quickly leaving behind soft vanilla and coconut, noticeable from afar. It smells very sweet even over time; it doesn’t saturate if you use a lot. Excellent value for money, holds up against more expensive and less natural perfumes. The only downside is it doesn’t smell like real coconut, but at this price, it doesn’t matter.

I don’t think it’s a bad fragrance; it’s a very good vanilla for 2 euros. I’ve had others costing between 10 and 18 that smelled more synthetic until they became unbearable and nauseating. This is good for what you pay; in fact, I think in terms of quality-to-price, you pay very little. Whether you repeat or not is another matter, but for the price… Although Mercadona perfumes don’t show up on Fragrantica here, perfume lovers know their excellent quality-to-price ratio. I know people from other countries who go crazy buying them when they come to Spain on vacation. You just have to go to Fragrantica.com to see that people complain exactly about that, that they don’t appear.

Monogotas Coco is very summery. At first, when you spray it, it smells very strongly of alcohol that stings the nose, and I don’t like that at all. Then, as minutes pass, the coconut aroma becomes noticeable, but it never becomes a natural coconut. It’s all synthetic, from start to finish, like the entire Monogotas range; with the vanilla one, it seems like even a pleasant synthetic… but not here. The longevity isn’t bad, nor is the projection, considering the bottle costs just over 3 euros. I bought it to use up this summer, and that’s what I’ll do, but I don’t think I’ll repurchase.
