Cobalt is a must-have for lovers of the golden age. Parera made colognes for the citizen who couldn’t afford many luxuries. Houses like Parera, Puig, or Fabergé haven’t been applauded as they deserve; they all share that philosophy of making quality products with a unique signature. Cobalt has the luminosity, consistency, and projection of the eighties colognes, plus that lost charm. It’s a fresh, earthy, and spicy scent, slightly soapy, that turns electric in the heart without losing its clean opening. Maybe it doesn’t stand out as a personal signature, but it offers the sensation of walking through a scrubland smelling of damp earth under a dark blue sky threatening a storm.
If you want a scent almost 100% like the original, now-discontinued Cobalt, it’s the Playboy #generation men’s EDT, obviously. It’s around 5.80 euros according to the site. It’s softer, but the notes are spot on. I bought it by chance, and wow, it reminds me, it really reminds me.
Cobalt is one of my earliest perfume memories, which makes it special. It came out around Christmas, shortly after Dana’s Squash and alongside Boston Man, Harvard, Crossmen… all splashes back then. I liked it and still think it’s a great combination of notes, even if the projection is weak. I discovered the perfumer is Maurice Roucel, whose compositions I find attractive; maybe that’s why I want to explore Irium. After Parera disappeared, Astor Cosmetics made it for a while in a spray bottle in an ‘Atomiseur’ box. Honest fragrance: for very little, you got a lot. Thanks!
It was an underground cologne used massively in Spain until the year 2000, when it became impossible to find. One of those sad disappearances that left its users disoriented and which now sells high among nostalgia vendors. Maurice Roucel did a great job with this cologne for the working-class market, dignified in quality and mastery. It’s a balanced spicy citrus, with a refreshing and clean opening, herbal and woody touches that give it a mature and sporty tone. It feels like a casual Carolina Herrera for Men for everyday wear. It was one of the best sellers in its sector those years, even if it wasn’t original. Its projection was discreet and it lasted several hours, designed to be sprayed on generously. Today it doesn’t justify the high prices, since Springfield gives an idea of what it was. Still, it’s not hard to find in neighborhood drugstores. Rating: 7/10.
