Sol de Janeiro Bruma 39: way too many expectations for so little 🥥 I was dying to try it! When I heard they were relaunching it, I went crazy. I ran to my perfumerie and bought it without thinking twice. But honestly, huge disappointment. Based on the notes, I thought I’d love it, but for me, it’s just… okay. I love Sol de Janeiro, truly, but I think this is one of their weakest mists. On my skin, it smells like coconut yogurt and nothing else. I don’t detect the praline, no creamy nuances, no depth. If I get really close and sniff the dry down, I catch a curious popcorn aroma. It smells good, yes, but very simple. Maybe the hype and the fact that it was discontinued raised my expectations. RATING: 6/10.
I was expecting more vanilla and something a bit simpler, with a chocolatey touch from the praline. It reminds me of slightly bitter hazelnut liqueur mixed with an intense, sweet coconut—nothing tropical. The roasted nutty note really stands out, probably from the hazelnut or almond in the praline. It doesn’t resemble any of Sol de Janeiro’s scents. No trace of popcorn either, maybe because they removed that note in this launch. People say it smells like the 71, but it doesn’t; the 71 smells like a cookie, while this has more depth and I like it better. It’s a good scent, just nothing new. Not super summery, but perfect for winter.
I tried it an hour ago and it hit hard—really good! Too bad I didn’t get to test the original Coco Cabana, since they say it changed a bit. What stands out most, both in the opening and dry down, is the praline. I expected something more coconutty and beachy, but it smells sweeter and less tropical. It’s not the 71, but it has the same vibes. If you’re between the 62 and 71, you’ll love this for its sweetness. If you’re looking for something more beachy, tropical, floral, and with a real coconut presence, Rio Radiance is still the best. I get the hype; it’s really good and will be one of my new SDJ favorites from now on.
