Babylon by Contes de Parfums: A Modern Chypre Masterpiece by Alberto Morillas

The fragrance world is buzzing with the release of Babylon, a brand new creation from the niche house Contes de Parfums. Launched in 2026, this scent marks a fascinating collaboration with the legendary perfumer Alberto Morillas.

Classified as a Chypre Fruity, Babylon defies easy categorization, offering a sophisticated blend that appeals to both men and women. It's a daring yet wearable composition that showcases Morillas's signature elegance with a contemporary twist.

The opening is a vibrant burst of freshness, where the herbal, slightly smoky character of yerba mate intertwines with the bright, sparkling citrus of bergamot. This initial accord sets a dynamic and energetic tone, immediately capturing attention without being overwhelming.

As the fragrance evolves, the heart reveals a luscious and unexpected fruity trio. Blueberries provide a deep, sweet tartness, while strawberry adds a juicy, playful edge. The inclusion of fig brings a creamy, green subtlety that softens the sweetness and adds a layer of sophistication.

The base is where Babylon truly anchors itself in the chypre tradition. A robust foundation of cedar and patchouli provides an earthy, woody depth, while gaiac wood adds a smooth, smoky texture. A touch of leather introduces a sensual, slightly rugged finish that balances the fruity sweetness perfectly.

The overall accords are a harmonious mix of woody, fruity, aromatic, sweet, fresh spicy, patchouli, and citrus elements. This complexity ensures that Babylon evolves beautifully on the skin, offering a new facet with every hour of wear. It is a scent that feels both opulent and grounded.

Babylon is perfect for the modern fragrance enthusiast who appreciates versatility. It suits individuals who enjoy a sweet scent but desire the depth and structure of a woody chypre. Whether worn casually or for a special evening event, it adapts seamlessly to the wearer's personality.

With an impressive early rating of 4.25 out of 5 from initial users, Babylon is proving to be a resounding success. It is a beautifully constructed, multi-faceted fragrance that honors the legacy of its perfumer while carving out its own unique identity. A must-try for anyone seeking a refined, contemporary chypre.

  1. I don’t have it in my possession yet… But I’ve tried it and it smells spectacular. I got wafts of fig with a leather note that goes perfectly with it. And every now and then, suddenly a strawberry note came through that just tops it off! I plan on buying it. If you’re from Madrid and want to smell it, at Perfumería Julia they have it available to smell. Now I have it in my possession! Morilla outdid himself, put it on the table and came out with a hell of a perfume! Even though it’s not a perfume for hot weather, today at work they asked me several times what perfume I was wearing.
