Every perfume, good or bad, hits the nose first but awakens other senses, conjures images, suggests stories, and paints characters. When I tried BHPC Classic for Men, I saw a young Californian from the mid-90s in a polo, fishing pants, and sneakers. He’s about 28, stands 6’1, has an unforgettable smile, brown hair, and looks great. He’s sociable, a bit of a player, slightly arrogant and boastful; he cares more about his physique than his manners, yet he’s not rude and knows how to behave. It’s a very American, summery fragrance where cedar, ambergris, and musk define a balanced, animalistic virility, tempered by clean citrus and classic vetiver. It has moderate projection and longevity—it’s reliable, neat, and formal enough for the office. The scent profile is linear with a very 90s base. Fragrance: 7.5/10, Longevity: 8/10, Projection: 8/10, Versatility: 8/10, Price: 8/10.
To me, it’s a fairly mediocre fragrance, perhaps a bit overpriced. I remember picking it up at a store in the US when I was visiting my mom; I grabbed the first one I saw, found it appealing, and it was cheap, around ten or twelve dollars. My mom didn’t see a problem and let me take it. Upon trying it, the scent was decent—not standout, but it fit the weather and the city well. For me, it’s a 6/10 because it’s just so average.
