Lorenzo Villoresi, born in 1956, is an independent perfumer from Florence, Italy, who has gained international acclaim for his bespoke fragrances and potpourris. Working outside the major fragrance houses, Villoresi continues the long tradition of perfumery in Florence, where, it could be said, modern perfume making began. His unique approach to fragrance creation, influenced by his travels in the Middle East, has resulted in a range of exotic and oriental aromas.
Born and raised in Florence, Villoresi’s passion for perfume was shaped by the city’s rich history in the art of fragrance creation. His studies and travels in the Middle East further inspired his work, exposing him to the world of oriental fragrances, spices, and exotic aromatics.
In 1990, Villoresi established the Lorenzo Villoresi house in the family palace of the 15th century overlooking the River Arno. As an independent perfumer, Villoresi focused on creating customized fragrances and potpourris, setting himself apart from major fragrance houses such as Hermès and Chanel.
His notable career has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Prix François Coty in 2006, an “Oscar” for perfumers that honors his achievements and more recent creations.
Villoresi is the author of several books about the art of perfume, including “Il Profumo: Cultura, storia e tecniche”, which provides insights into perfumery techniques, raw materials, and history. He has also written books about the art of bathing, exploring the sensuality of body rituals.
Actively promoting the culture and art of perfume, Villoresi takes part in the annual FRAGRANZE conferences organized by Pitti Immagine, which bring together perfumers from around the world to celebrate the art and culture of fine fragrances. He is also a founding member of the Accademia dell’Arte del Profumo in Florence, aimed at organizing courses, events, seminars, and fragrance libraries.
Lorenzo Villoresi’s approach to fragrance creation is characterized by his passion for exotic and oriental aromas. His line “fragrance fantasia” features notable creations such as Piper Nigrum, inspired by African markets and the spice route; Dilmun, a citrus scent reminiscent of the Mesopotamian paradise; Teint de Neige, evoking the Belle Époque and the scent of perfumed powders; Yerbamate, a tribute to nature and vast open spaces; and Alamut, a sumptuous oriental perfume with sensual notes and precious flowers.
Lorenzo Villoresi has carved out a unique path in the world of perfumery as an independent perfumer from Florence. His passion for exotic and oriental fragrances and his dedication to preserving the culture and art of perfume have made him a respected figure in the industry. Through his bespoke fragrances, his books, and his participation in perfume-related events, Villoresi continues to shape the world of fragrances and inspire future generations of perfumers.
