There’s absolutely no alcohol smell, even though it’s the first ingredient. You immediately get shy, soft, sweet violets. I apply it on clothes because it doesn’t stain and lasts for days. It smells very similar to Insolence EDP; in fact, in English they say you can layer 1902 first, then Insolence. I confirm with both that either one is enough, though Insolence has more projection. Totally recommended for violet lovers and anyone who likes sweet scents.
It’s a cologne where the alcohol dominates and it doesn’t last long. But there are things you can’t resist: it’s the closest thing to the discontinued Violettes de Toulouse since it comes from the same maker. These sweet, vintage violets stray from today’s vanilla-heavy gourmands. Their ethereal sweetness transports me to my dreams. It’s subjective, of course, but if you’re on the violet team, share your scents because this note is trending down.
It’s true the opening is a bit alcoholic, but it fades in a minute, leaving a delicious, sweet violet that isn’t cloying. I agree with DanE: good violets are hard to find right now. For me, the current queen is Accordo di Viola by L’Erbolario—it’s perfect. I also love 1902, even though its longevity is short; it lasts longer on clothes.
