The 2010 summer flanker of L’Eau d’Issey is still a beast, even though it’s discontinued. The white-and-green striped bottle is a classic. This summer of 2024 caught me by surprise: it’s absolutely delicious, fresh, and less sharp on the citrus front than the original, featuring a powerful yuzu that becomes more herbal and less floral as it dries down. Sage and a subtle vetiver make it interesting, while a hint of spiced cardamomo adds an intriguing sparkle. It performs better than current batches of the classic, lasting 6 hours with average projection. It’s a real joy to wear, similar to AdG but less marine, more sensual, green, and cheerful. Perfect for informal or semi-formal daytime wear with a masculine touch. If you can grab it at a good price, it’s a must-buy; I won’t pay eBay markups, but at 32 euros for sealed 125 ml, it was a steal. A great accessible discontinued gem. One of the best summer editions of Issey Pour Homme, right up there with the 2005 version. Fresh, light, and with great longevity. Unlike the ‘Fresche’ version, which toned down the yuzu to boost floral notes, here it’s the opposite: they cut back on the florals to highlight a vetiver base over which a potent yuzu shines. Nothing like the current summer versions, which feel watery and lack personality. I think this could replace my regular Issey Pour Homme stash for a while.
