Scheherazade by Bortnikoff is an olfactory fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2023, Scheherazade was created by Dmitry Bortnikoff and Rajesh Balkrishnan. The top notes are bergamot, black currant, and red mandarin; the heart notes are plum and pepper; the base notes are Malaysian oud, sandalwood, and cedar.

Neither here nor there. I was eager to try it because of the collaboration between Rajesh Balkrishnan and Dimitry Bortnikov (they’ve worked together three times now). How is Scheherazade? A juicy, intense bergamot kicks things off before handing over to the star: black currants, which dominate everything. There’s a hint of green chabacano, all set against a woody base with sandalwood. Not much development, modest performance, unisex with a masculine lean, and versatile. I really did try it, but unless you’re a black currant fanatic and that’s your favorite note, this offering is just average. It doesn’t smell bad or lack quality, but it doesn’t stand out, it’s not purposeful, and it leaves an uncomfortable feeling considering its $350 price tag. I didn’t like it enough to wear it. It doesn’t even make the brand’s top 10. If I had access to the entire Bortnikoff line for daily wear, I’d hardly use Scheherazade. If Santa Sangre was ‘acceptable’, this feels very weak. Without a doubt, its best work so far is Sayat Nova.

I agree with the previous reviewer; it smells very simple and doesn’t evoke any emotion. If anyone finds the OUD note, let me know. It doesn’t justify its price.
