RITO – BLACKOUT: An absolute gem. It’s complicated for noses that are new to fragrances because it breaks the mold. Dense, mysterious, luxurious, and unique; it’s a black veil that becomes your second skin. Pure elegance, especially with a black outfit. It opens smoky with red fruits and resins, adding a hint of vinyl, dark woods, and a subtle cocoa that makes it more approachable. For making an impact, standing out, and breaking rules. It smells like darkness and total luxury. Nighttime use only. Literally the scent of a vampire. The velvet of the night. 100% recommended.

I tested this on my skin for the second time. The first time I liked it, but I didn’t prioritize it because I didn’t feel its uniqueness… Today, I finally get it. I own a Sasva Junoon (175€ for 100ml), and this is almost its clone, but it tames the animalic edge. Aside from that, it smells animalic, warm, and patchouli-like with a sweet touch that softens it. Very rich, not too challenging. If you want this but with more of a ‘growl’, try the other one. I’m going to test Junoon on the other hand, but my hesitation to buy it is that I already own something so similar.

This is my second niche fragrance I’ve tried. What can I say? I was totally surprised. It wasn’t easy for me to get on board at first, but now I get it: it’s a dark chocolate with serious character. It’s quickly become my second favorite underground niche scent, haha.
I expected it to be darker. In reality, it’s quite friendly and won’t scare anyone. I find it warm, with a barrel-aged alcohol vibe; it’s woody and mostly sweet. There’s also something balsamic, maybe a touch of incense. It’s a curious scent, but I wouldn’t call it dark. The opening has a faint gunpowder note that fades quickly. Some compare it to Iron Duke, but I don’t think so; ID is more potent, wild, dark, and smoky. I just realized that this sweetness reminds me of a Kemi-style oud that Maurice loves so much.

Mineral oud and perhaps geosmine give it a smoky, earthy facet that isn’t suffocating. The heart features something creamy, like sandalwood with vanilla—not cloying—that adds a powdery sweetness, highlighted by a red fruit note. They achieve a great balance and a unique proposal, though the evolution is linear. It calls for semiformal outfits and is ideal for cold climates and nighttime wear.

In my opinion, the first time I sprayed it, it reminded me of Beaufort’s Iron Duke, but much less potent. Later tests confirmed: less projection, shorter longevity, and it’s way more expensive than ‘Iron Duke’.
