Gourmand Bottle
Of all the vanillas I own, this is one of the most milky, and its longevity on clothes has been over 24 hours. I understand why people compare it to Jousset’s Accident à la Vanille, but that fragrance has a more cookie-like, crumbly quality. To my nose, Varni Charnel is milky—I’d say even milkier than the famous Bianco Latte. I love it!

Out of all the vanillas I own, this is one of the most lactonic, plus its longevity on clothes has been over 24 hours. I get why people compare it to Jousset’s Accident a la Vanille, though that scent has a more cookie-like, crumbly quality. To my nose, Varni Charnel is lactonic, even more so than the famous Bianco Latte. I love it!

I discovered this gem in a sample I ordered with a purchase from an Italian perfumery (specifically when I bought Escapade Gourmand by Mataha). The moment I smelled it, I fell to my knees. To my nose, this essence sits right between Accident à la Vanille and Bianco Latte by Giardini di Toscana. If you love those two, buy it blind; you’ll hit the bullseye—there’s no way to miss. It’s one of the most appetizing gourmand scents (in the edible, intoxicating sense) I’ve ever smelled. Vanilla and caramel dominate, resting on a milky base that gives off a vibe like white chocolate, reminiscent of the roll found in Bianco Latte or Lait concentré by Chabaud. While Épico sits more in the center, only in the sense that it tones down the sweetness slightly compared to the aforementioned scents while remaining an eminently sweet fragrance. An extraordinary quality gourmand perfume, essential for any collection of gourmand lovers. Longevity is 6-8 hours; the trail is strong for the first two hours, then stays close without fading away. You’ll appreciate it at all times. If you’re a gourmand lover, you’ll perceive it as unisex. If not, you might sense it leaning more feminine. I say this in case gender opinions on perfumes still matter to you, to help you form an idea, though over time, if you’re a fragrance enthusiast, you’ll reach a point where it doesn’t matter at all, since no aroma has a gender, absolutely none (this is a very personal opinion, as everyone is free to feel and express what they think).

Caught me harder than Escapade Gourmande. I find it more complex and well-crafted; you can really smell the notes, it’s not just sugar and zazz. At first, it tickles the nose, but it settles quickly and takes you on its journey. It offers nuances and evolution from the start. It’s neither simple nor linear: it’s warm vanilla with a caramel dry-down. You notice the fruits and citrus at first, though they fade to very subtle hints. It has a wide sillage when sprayed, but moderates over time until it becomes a second skin. Still, the vanilla really shines through. It’s not a powerhouse, but it’s a solid, worthwhile purchase; I’m happy with the quality and essence. Unisex, perfect for gourmand vanilla lovers. Beautiful for cool or crisp months. A sweet, caramelized hug.
