Poker Face by Ted Lapidus

What a relief, a very correct and pleasant fragrance. I bought it blind, as a good colonial perfume addict, and when I tested it on my wrist with just two sprays, I realized I didn’t do it justice. Obviously, I already had another scent on that day, but the next day I wore it to the max and wow, it’s much better than that first impression with those two miserable sprays. It’s not that old-school or vintage style Lapidus usually has, but totally modern, mainstream, and easy to wear. The opening feels a bit weird for about 10-15 seconds, not unpleasant but uncomfortable: synthetic and messy. But that passes quickly. Then the iris appears, very pleasant and the star, accompanied by lavender and cardamom-pepper that give it cleanliness with a spicy touch. It continues like this until the patchouli, tonka bean, and cedar enter, giving it a softly sweetened woody vibe where it stays until the end. It lasts about 5-6 hours with intimate projection. Saying it reminds me of Dior Homme is anecdotal, just because of the iris. I don’t know about the similarity to LNDL, I’ve never tried it, but it has its own path. I wouldn’t wear it if it’s over 20-22 degrees because of the powdery iris, and I’m not sure if it will perform under 15 degrees since it’s so intimate and could get lost. In summary: more than correct, very pleasant, usable in the office in cool weather, and for 16€ for 100ml, it’s perfect.

Exquisite, elegant, and serene fragrance. For cold climates to feel all its power. Worth a thousand times the price. +30 in my opinion.

Review of Ted Lapidus Pokerface. I was pleasantly surprised by its scent and commercial value, very accessible. To the point: it opens with well-marked lavender and citrus giving way to pepper and cardamoms, its star notes, giving it a spicy profile. Although Fragantica doesn’t list vanilla in the composition, it undoubtedly carries vanilla to temper those spices before giving way to cedar and tonka bean. The projection is about half an hour before fading slowly, and the duration is around five hours. It’s for all occasions and all four seasons, day and night. In short: a spicy and vanilla fragrance for everything, quite economical in my country (Argentina), and it will receive compliments from both male and female audiences. Greetings.

I tried it and took it home. It’s a lasting scent that doesn’t project much (but you should spray more), smells similar to La Nuit, I’d say 70%, it also has a bit of Dior Homme Intense due to the iris note. I sense more lavender, cedar, iris, and cardamomo, plus floral notes. Personally, the iris makes it a bit feminine, but it does resemble La Nuit and the price is ridiculous. I even recommend buying it blind if you like that type of scent. It’s more versatile than the original and suitable for medium climates like autumn or spring. Suitable for dates.

Very pleasant to wear on autumn and winter days, like today. An elegant fragrance at half the price is not to be despised these days, maybe it will go with me for the next few years. A soft sweetness and powdery touch to spray on a nice shirt and head out to the streets.

@nestordff, old man, nobody compares it to the 2009 Nuit de l’Homme, nor the EDP. They compare it to the one sold TODAY in stores for 130 USD, which lasts 2 hours and disappears. I grabbed this one for 15 USD, it delivers the same, super charming and tasty, with that powdery iris that fans appreciate. It serves you for what it serves and lasts what it lasts. Now, if you want to cheat yourself by paying what Nuit de l’Homme costs, go ahead, you’re just paying the cost of your ego. Pokerface is vastly undervalued, it could cost the same 130 USD. I insist, it’s compared to Nuit de l’Homme, not the EDP version. That’s something else.

I remember La Nuit de l’homme from 2020; I thought it was one of the most charming and seductive, but it lasted barely anything. A few days ago, I picked up Poker Face by Ted Lapidus without high hopes, and it really captivated me. It’s a scent very close to La Nuit, with a notable iris base and a sweeter touch. It’s almost identical—a safe purchase. Sometimes I think everyone should own one, but I don’t want it to get too common. Haha… in my country, it’s not a typical scent; everyone goes for sweet PR or JPG fragrances, so Poker Face makes you stand out. It’s exquisite and sensual; unlike La Nuit, it lasts! I wear it to university and it lasts all day. It doesn’t project much, but that’s the charm: it’s a scent that invites you to get closer. I wouldn’t say the projection is bad like La Nuit’s; it’s right on point. Besides the quality, the best part is the price: I got 100 ml for $18 with shipping, which is insane. When I showed it to my brother, he thought it was $70 and couldn’t believe the receipt. It smells way more expensive than it is. The value proposition is crazy; it crushes Zara perfumes that feel synthetic and last a breath. I went to a perfumery and tried La Nuit again; Poker Face is the perfect clone; in some spots, they’re indistinguishable. Don’t doubt this beauty. You have the right not to like it, but objectively, it’s not bad—it’s the opposite. It has the three ‘B’s’, makes you stand out, and the atomizer doesn’t hurt. If it runs out, getting another one is almost a gift.

The French house Ted Lapidus ‘modernized’ its men’s catalog with this fragrance, Poker Face, alongside TL Intenso and the Stories saga. It’s a blend of 30% YSL La Nuit de L’homme (2009), 30% of the Dior Homme saga (that powdery scent with a strong iris/orris note, leaning towards feminine makeup), and 10% of the discontinued CH Men Privé, with a tiny touch of softened, sweetened leather, especially in the opening. The best part: the price, between 25 and 35 euros, and its good availability in Spain (Prieto perfumeries, chip section). The bottle looks cool, and the atomizer works well. The worst: its longevity is extremely short; on my skin, max 2 hours (my bottle is from 2022; I don’t know if it’s been reformulated, but I’m floored by what people say it lasts 7-8 hours… either I got ripped off or everyone smokes oregano). Sillage is max 30 minutes, never passing 30 cm. By hour three, bye Pedrín, as if you walked out unperfumed. Originality? Zero. Nowadays, it’s more overused than the handrail on Gran Vía metro.

A fragrance that, despite costing little, has a wonderful scent. In the first hour, black pepper feels quite sharp but not annoying, then it shifts to a makeup pencil touch. It’s simple for cold seasons or fresh days. It has moments with those La Nuit bursts. Longevity of those occasional fragrances that leave a good impression; great for a night date, works in open or closed spaces without being overwhelming. Longevity: 8, Sillage: 8, Projection: 7, Price: 10. Undoubtedly, a beautiful, pleasant fragrance that creates a sense of closeness.

A great fragrance. Upon application, it brought back memories of Ted Lapidus Black Soul; then, an hour later, that sensation fades, and Black Soul feels heavier. Clearly, it’s very similar to YSL La Nuit at a very low cost. Longevity and sillage are fantastic. Its scent in cold or semi-cold weather is very pleasant. Ideal for night dates and cold days/nights. I recommend it highly; it’s an elegant scent that doesn’t go unnoticed.

Here’s a great fragrance at an egg price (though nowadays eggs aren’t cheap, haha). A scent that reminds me of YSL’s Nuit but with more flaws in its construction. Performance is quite good, lasting 7 to 8 hours. In summary, 100% recommended. Rating: 7.5/10.

Excellent fragrance; after drying down, it’s impossible to distinguish it from YSL La Nuit. The price-to-quality ratio is overwhelming; it’s a must-buy.

What a great fragrance! 👌 I’ll update later since it just arrived and I’m still getting used to it 😁. Update: The opening is unusual for my nose; it doesn’t smell bad, I like it, but it’s atypical. I suspect it’s the violet leaves. The dry down is the best part, as described below. It’s an easy but rich scent. The weak point is performance; it doesn’t stand out in cool temperatures. If you catch it at a good price, it’s a great option. I haven’t tried the one people say it resembles, but YSL scents don’t stand out in potency these days either. Finally, I don’t know what’s wrong with the bottle; it’s a classic straight-line design. The only flaw is the cap, which doesn’t hold well and risks falling if you grip it loosely. To me, a bad-looking bottle could be Toy Boy 😂

Another great job by Ted Lapidus. A delicate and elegant blend of iris, citrus, and wood, mainly, with notable longevity and medium-to-short projection. In my opinion, wearable in any season, including summer.

Just bought this for my son and I have to say, it smells amazing. The opening is generic, but after a few minutes it transforms into something elegant and exquisite—I actually wanted to hug my son’s neck for a long time, haha. The best part? The price!!! It offers more than its cost and gives the feeling of belonging to a prestigious house. The longevity and sillage are excellent. I loved the combination of notes; they are in perfect harmony. I give it 8.5/10. Highly recommended.
