Have you worn Cape Heartache?

Tell us how it opens, how it settles on your skin, how long it lasts and when you wear it.

  1. Victreebel

This smells like a landscape, not a person: it’s atmospheric, not meant to earn compliments. It describes a beautiful, romantic, and melancholic scene, like a book by an Imaginary Author. It opens with smoky woods, strong, as if you were in a cabin with the fireplace roaring on the last day of autumn. Then, the smoke gives way to damp woods, as if you stepped out into a misty forest to smell the wet pines. After that, the journey shifts: in solitude, you remember someone from the past and melancholy takes over. Notes of strawberry with talc and vanilla appear, an unexpected twist. On my skin, it’s barely noticeable, but on others, it can be sharp. In the end, I think the brand’s candle smells better than the perfume, because this is more environmental than personal.

  2. I expected more and, with continued wear, I hate it even more; luckily, it’s just a decant. The mix of strawberry and pine smells medicinal, spicy, and piercing, like a strawberry-scented cleaner masking solvents. Maybe I don’t have the olfactory memory to relate it, but it’s definitely not my type. That said, it lasts quite a while on clothes and skin.

  3. I only tested it once in-store, so these are first impressions for anyone not wanting to buy blind. On my hand, it smells like petrichor, which I didn’t like, but as it dries, it sweetens, seeming like a version of Haltane (the Josh Meyer strawberry doesn’t appear, but I imagine it feeds that sweetness). The projection was notable, and after a few hours, it stood out above the other fragrances of the day. I wasn’t disgusted, but I didn’t identify with it enough to buy it. Given the price (99€/50ml), the presentation, and apparent quality, it’s worth it for lovers of green and woody scents. Although it says unisex, in my opinion, it leans more masculine, ideal for autumn and winter.

I love the citrus opening that transforms into an addictive mix of resins and wild strawberries. Every time I wear it, it transports me to a place of melancholy and adventure, like an olfactory novel on my skin. It’s a fragrance that leaves a personal and ethereal mark.

  5. Emorandeira

It reminds me of a mix between Midsummer bonfires, especially the smell of clothes the next day, and walks with my father through the pines in my village. The scent is curious, but I don’t feel it as a perfume. I struggle to find the strawberry and don’t know if I like smelling like this. I’ve enjoyed trying it, but I wouldn’t spend that much money on it. Original, yes… Wearable, not so sure. Scent: 6, Longevity: 7, Sillage: 5, Value: 5, Versatility: 8, Overall: 6.

Cape Heartache opens with woody and smoky nuances, with a fruity base from the strawberry. You can detect fir and pine, reminiscent of perfumes like Arso or Fille en Aiguilles. In the heart phase, the strawberry gains presence over the smoke and woods, though they’re always there. In the end, the vanilla sweetens it excessively, and in my opinion, it becomes cloying. The woody and smoky base remains present but less so. Better for cool weather, and I see it as unisex: the start is more masculine, but the end turns feminine due to the sweetness. Performance is good; it lasts many hours with presence. It’s high quality, with an original mix of smoke and fruit. The end is a bit cloying, but not excessive. I recommend trying it; it’s curious.
