Perfumer
Serge Majoullier
Born in Grasse, Serge Majoullier studied chemistry and economics before joining MANE’s analysis and chromatography department. He then moved to the department of essential oils and floral products before ultimately becoming a perfumer. From 1995 to 2002, he worked as director of perfumery; he later focused on creation and established himself as a perfumer while maintaining a role in research. Majoullier has worked extensively on supercritical extraction processes with Jungle Essence, as well as on the development of raw materials.
Serge Majoullier, an accomplished perfumer, has worked with a variety of esteemed brands, such as CIEL Parfum, Giorgio Armani, Jacomo, Jo Malone London, Karl Lagerfeld, Lulu Castagnette, Majouri, Mugler, Neotantric, Nuxe, Pascal Morabito, Phebo, Salvatore Ferragamo and Viktor&Rolf. Among his most popular creations are Viktor&Rolf Bonbon, Mugler Womanity Eau pour Elles, Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum and Karl Lagerfeld for Her.
Despite the extensive exploration of biodiversity in the perfume industry, Serge Majoullier shows that the palette of natural ingredients is far from being unchanging. In a constant search for innovation, composing houses develop new products every year, offering their perfumers and customers original olfactive nuances. Majoullier’s expertise lies in combining these two pursuits—creating new scents and researching materials derived from nature—by designing fragrances that highlight MANE’s ingredients.
Majoullier’s main source of inspiration is nature, as shown by his treatment of iris, which evokes chocolate nuances, as seen in Femme Bleue de Armani Privé. His second inspiration comes from the culinary world, where he appreciates the creative associations made by chefs, often drawing inspiration from the aromas of his mother’s rice cakes and semolina. In addition, Majoullier is inspired by the atmospheres of everyday life, such as fairs and markets, which is why he enjoys traveling—later connecting his olfactive memories with a specific project.
Majoullier’s creations include Prodigieux Le Parfum from Nuxe, Elle L'Aime from Lolita Lempicka, the next women’s fragrance from Karl Lagerfeld (with Christine Nagel) and Bonbon from Viktor & Rolf (with Cécile Matton). In Elle L'Aime from Lolita Lempicka, Majoullier, together with Christine Nagel, explored an olfactive story focused on white flowers, particularly jasmine and ylang-ylang, textured by a natural coconut note extracted using MANE’s exclusive Jungle Essence™ technology. The resulting incandescent white floral fragrance embodies the flesh and blood of the woman Lolita Lempicka.
Serge Majoullier’s dedication to innovation, research and the exploration of natural ingredients has made him a force to be reckoned with in the perfume industry. His talent for creating unique and memorable scents, and his passion for discovering new olfactive nuances, ensure that his work continues to be admired by both customers and fellow perfumers alike.
