Balenciaga Talisman is a floral chypre fragrance for women. Launched in 1994, this composition was created by Dominique Preyssas. The top notes unfold with dried fruits, rum, aldehydes, pineapple, peach, osmanthus, mandarin, hyacinth, lychee, and bergamot; the heart reveals ylang-ylang, carnation, jasmine, rose, iris, cyclamen, freesia, and valley lily; while the base notes settle with beeswax, leather, caramel, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli, amber, coconut, cedar, and musk.

My mom was complaining today that she needed perfume (her way of asking for a gift), so while walking through the city center, I stopped at a perfumery I’ve known forever, where I know they have hidden gems, exclusives, and some discontinued treasures. I stumbled upon Talisman, the vintage splash version. The deal was incredible, so I tried it. What a glorious perfume! It’s opulent on the opening and very elegant. It’s a sophisticated and complex fragrance: honeyed fruity aroma with a rum touch, soft leather (the aldehydes here are delicate), flowers, and peach in the base. It lasts for hours and hours. I gifted it to my mom, and it fits her perfectly. It’s curious how little this perfume lived, but it’s seductive, classy, well-structured, with a masterful harmony where nothing is loud. It’s a perfumery jewel in the Balenciaga style, a brilliant couturier who coincided with Chanel and Dior and knew how to represent haute couture. Ideal for a formal, feminine, sophisticated, powerful, and high-performance style. Happy with the purchase and my mom aromatizing rooms and leaving a trail everywhere. Wonderful fragrance!
It goes equally crazy and sticky as its sister Rumba. Talisman is literally a magnet with that vibrant liquid. It’s a luxury liqueur blending fruits, flowers, and hints of caramel and patchouli. It flirts with that gourmand genre that started shining in the 90s, where floral and fruity scents explored sweetness. On the opening, a strong dose of patchouli and caramel recalls flashes of Mugler’s Angel, but Talisman plays with the idea without copying it. As it develops, it finds its own personality: honeyed nuts, turning into a fruity, floral, and musky side that’s more playful and less overwhelming than Angel. It’s exquisite, intoxicating, voluptuous, with great projection and excellent longevity. The early gourmands played with the boozy, smoky, and sweet aspects, nothing synthetic or linear.
