  I knew nothing about the designer or the notes, but I tried it because of its extravagant design and the liquid’s color. For 1937, it feels bold and eccentric. I love it because it’s different and daring, hard to compare. It was created to set trends, as one would expect from such an influential designer as Elsa. I think there were 3 reformulations; I don’t know which version I have, but for me, it’s very different from its era, almost advanced; sometimes I feel it would fit better in the 80s. Shocking has one of the best honey notes I’ve ever heard. The amber and civet don’t stand out as much, but they’re noticeable. You can also detect rose, sandalwood, and musk. It’s very particular; maybe some won’t like it because of the civet, but I encourage you to try it, it’s worth it.

  Agree with Selene: this is a very particular and eccentric fragrance. I defend seeking out unadvertised scents, forgotten versions, or the little-known stuff. Let’s aim for the different, the almost unique, something that doesn’t hit us in the face. Almost everything new is just a tweaked copy of something before… that’s why it’s worth feeling like a ‘flapper girl’ of the 20s or a diva of the 30s. I think perfumes aren’t just for smelling, but for playing with them, why not?
