  Based on the notes, I expected more; I feel it smells like shampoo from start to finish. At least I feel freshly out of the shower, hear me out.

  For the cost, I expected more; I was truly disappointed. On my skin, it smells spectacular, but it projects nothing—little sillage and poor longevity, barely 3 hours; after that, it stays right next to the skin. Nothing a body mist can’t do. For what it costs and offers, it’s not worth it. I bought a decant and that was the best thing I did; I’m not crazy enough to buy the full bottle.

  This perfume is like the warm embrace of a grandmother, infused with love and serenity. Smelling it transports me to a spring garden where my grandmother enjoys the sun. A magical breeze transforms me into a child and urges me to run toward her to hug her. The scent is exactly that kind of embrace. It’s hyper-feminine and conveys quality, with moderate longevity and projection.

  I had high expectations based on the notes, but experiences like this have made me rule out buying perfumes blind. It’s a perfume with little to no evolution from the opening to the dry down. It’s strongly floral, with rose standing out; it’s fresh, soft, and pleasant, but it gives me too strong an impression of the type of perfumes used more than 20 years ago, so it effectively smells like grandma. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not unpleasant; it feels warm and embracing, but I’d prefer it as a home fragrance, not something I want to wear. Of the ones I tried from the kit (this is the seventh), it has the least intensity, sillage, and longevity, so I opine it’s not worth the price either.

  Shabby Chic is the most discreet perfume from Giardini di Toscana. A powdery rose with a strong musk. A feminine, clean scent for daily wear… which, despite being soapy, has that creamy-slightly sweet base accord typical of the house that makes it less sharp than many other perfumes in this style. Personally, I enjoyed the sample, although it is true that the scent is quite simple and the performance a bit weak, lasting no more than 4-5 hours on skin. I wouldn’t pay the price, at least not at its original cost.

  The first time I smelled it, I thought: ‘Do I really deserve to smell this good?’. It’s a miracle; it smells like peonies and luxury soap. I detect more peony than rose, which I appreciate. It’s a gorgeous, clean, floral blend—intimate, slightly powdery, and without any harshness. I’ll never get tired of smelling it. If you like clean or floral perfumes, you have to try it. Just be aware of the short longevity and sillage for the price.

  If you’re missing Lolita Lempicka’s L’eau en Blanc, try this Shabby Chic by GdT. You’ll think, ‘But they don’t share a single note’. And you’re right, yet it works just as well. It’s magic. Based on reviews, I deduce your grandmothers smell like enchanted fairytale princesses. Congratulations to them. Shabby Chic is, like everything else GdT makes, a delight. Delicate, fresh roses (aided by peony) with a very elegant musk base. Beautiful and feminine, somewhat vintage. Discreet and poor in performance, but it’s so cute that I don’t mind much. Once I finish the sample, I’ll decide whether to add this L’eau en Blanc substitute to my collection to stop fussing with my already dwindling, discontinued Manzanita, which is in its final days.
