  • Holy disappointment! As Robin would say in the 60s, Batman🦇. This is a new collaboration between Dmitry and Rajesh (Sayat Nova) with a name that sparks curiosity and the urge to smell it. They promise a floral, and I enjoy florals. There’s a lot of lotus in the notes, which sounds great. ➡️ The opening: lots of lotus with a fleeting spark of indolic jasmine that lasts barely a moment, all over a sandalwood and benzoin base that smells like vanilla. I like the opening, but sadly after 10-15 minutes it turns into a powdery vanilla scent that dominates everything, with some hard-to-identify floral hints. You could play a guessing game: rose? geranium? The performance is modest, unisex with a feminine leaning. It doesn’t smell bad, but paying $350 for a powdery vanilla scent and a floral trail that disappears once dried down (the lotus vanishes completely) feels mediocre. It doesn’t stand out or challenge the heavy hitters like Oud Monarch, Sayat Nova, or Mysterious Oud. Anyone wanting to impress perfumers will call it a masterpiece (I take a moment to laugh). It seems this wave of launching perfumes just to heat up heads is starting to tire us out and make us more jealous of our money. Even though it’s a trend, Areej does the same thing with Manly or Atlantic Ambergris II. If it cost $250, I’d try to find a good side, but with what I’m getting, I’ll just have to deal with that indifferent drydown after 15 minutes. Very ‘X’. It falls short compared to other florals.

It smells incredible and moves away from the typical Bortnikoff style, reminding me more of Sir Winston or Triad. It’s very pleasant and easy to like for anyone. But, to be honest, knowing other creations from the house, it seems to me one of the least interesting; personally, with expensive perfumes, I need to be surprised much more. It’s not new, different, elegant, or original, simply easy. Also, the longevity on skin is ridiculous (4 hours?) and it doesn’t even project or leave a trail. It’s a very expensive luxury to have a bottle of this.
