It’s a realistic rose. I received a sample along with others from the house during an online chat with perfumer James Heeley, organized by a niche perfumery in Madrid. Since the fragrance had just launched, I tried it and loved it. At first, it smells like a garden rose wet from the rain with green nuances, then it becomes powdery and reminds me of dried roses between book pages. That powdery part is my favorite, an absolute delight. It’s one of my preferred roses, perfect for this rainy autumn we’re having. Longevity and projection are good: about 8 hours on skin and 4 hours of trail, after which it clings to the skin. Definitely one of my favorites for that powdery dry-down, and totally unisex.

Rose Aria by Heeley promises freshness and lightness, but to me it sounds like a mature, fleshy, and wet rose. It has a green touch that gives it a serious, formal, and even slightly lugubrious vibe. It’s not a classic, but it is very mature; it lacks that spark to be lively, energetic, and effortlessly cool for a more youthful crowd. The scent is top-notch and the trail is potent, but it’s a pure soliflore, just for rose lovers. I think it would have benefited from a more pronounced oud or sandalwood to take the boredom out of it. Cheers!

It’s my number one rose, surpassing Portrait of a Lady. It smells like a garden rose, like a wet and fluffy white bud. To me, it’s unisex, though it depends on everyone’s tolerance. The flaw: it’s more of a 10/10 recreation of a scent than a perfume in itself, lacking twists or complexities.
