  Oriental Soul is easy for those who love sweets. On Fragantica.com, it’s compared to Heliotrope Reminiscence and has that constant trail. On my skin, in its final phase, it reminds me of Al Contrario by T.T.: it doesn’t have cocoa, but it reflects its warmth and heavy powder effect, then turning into a creamy vanilla. It’s not as dark, but it constantly nods to that perfume. At first, it’s a bit alcoholic, but not annoying; being a fragrance that has aged, it’s denser than at the start; I don’t detect clear citrus or florals, just a very sugared peach from the vanilla or chocolate. What defines this fragrance is that excessive sweetness: a potion of vanilla, cocoa, amber, and benzoin that leaves you blind. There’s little evolution, so just enjoy what it gives: lust, killer, gourmand. The smoky touch of benzoin adds elegance. The trail is just right, thank you; on other skins or eras it might project more, but for me, strict gourmands tend to stay close to the skin. A spiced oriental usually projects more, and I’ve noticed that many vanillas last a long time but project little. It could be highly appreciated by vanilla lovers; I even see it as more complete than other pricier perfumes in the segment. If you’re looking for an overdose of sweetness, you’ll be pleased. Edit: those who have mouths make mistakes… on clothes with about 6 sprays, it smells delicious, a creamy chocolatey vanilla with a constant trail for a few hours. I do note the heliotrope… and beware of clothes, it stains like Alien Essence, leaving a yellow trail on the skin.

  Angel Schlesser, the Cantabrian brand that started with clothes in the 80s and moved to perfumes in the 90s, offers supermarket fragrances with pretensions: pricier than Domínguez or Banderas, but still within reach for tight budgets. Their brand is now facing the same fate as other Spanish designers—either they die out or get forgotten while alive. Oriental Soul Pour Femme is pure artifice: vanilla, vanilla, and more synthetic vanilla. It’s that love-hate scent, like Joop! Homme or Fantasy, totally one-dimensional and cloyingly sweet. Imagine a vanilla so oversweetened and sharp it would send you into diabetic shock if you weren’t on insulin, maybe with hints of peach, freesia, and amber. It doesn’t evolve or fade; it lasts like Duracell batteries on my skin and clothes. It’s a performance marvel, but be careful with the dose, or it turns into a walking diabetic vanilla bomb ready to have a nervous breakdown. Still, I love it; it has that crazy, psychedelic, methamphetamine vibe, like the Manson Family in Wonderland.
