I have no proof, but also no doubts, that they copied the bottle from YSL’s M7… that fragrance which, as I’ve read, brought the oud note to Western commercial perfumery. I don’t know much about what’s considered an oriental fragrance; in my head, when I hear the word ‘oriental,’ I think of spices… but there’s none of that here. If I had to quickly define Oriental Dream, I’d call it a sweet fruity scent. For me, the blackcurrant note is the star here, and around that axis, galbanum spins first, followed by amber. There are more nuances, but that’s the part I feel most. The initial freshness/greenness fades quickly, and sweetness takes over. It’s not cloying; it’s like the sweetness of fruit, not overwhelming. In the dry-down, the amber takes more prominence, giving the blackcurrants a toasty touch that I really like. That final part (especially close to the skin) is very, very similar to Mugler’s Angel. I see Oriental Dream as quite, if not totally, unisex. Normally, that happens with me with fruity notes. As for performance, that’s its weak point. It’s true that it has good longevity on skin (I can still smell it perfectly after 12 hours), but in terms of projection, it’s quite timid. The first half-hour projects well, then for about four hours you get some bursts, but after that, it drops to skin scent. The good thing is that close to the skin, you can definitely smell it; moreover, in my opinion, it’s an addictive and seductive aroma (I’m a fan of Angel’s DNA), so it could perform well on dates. Overall, I highly recommend it at its official launch price (20-30€)… I wouldn’t pay more for it, because although it’s ultra-rare to find, at least in my case, it lacked a bit more projection. I also recommend it if you like blackcurrant notes or are looking for something similar to Mugler’s Angel (in the dry-down).
