Descripción

Opus Magnum by French Avenue is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2025, this creation unfolds an olfactory pyramid where the top notes feature incense, basil, cardamom, and bergamot; the heart reveals tobacco, fennel, and lavender; and the base settles on amber, Peru balsam, oud wood, and tonka bean.

  • Amouage’s Royal Tobacco remains my favorite—a complex scent that doesn’t suit everyone. That’s why I thought Arab brands wouldn’t dare attempt a clone until French Avenue launched theirs. I was happy about the news but also filled with skepticism. Royal Tobacco is a masterpiece, and you have to do things very well to even come close. Well, after buying, aging, and wearing it, I have to say French Avenue knocked it out of the park with this. But exactly as is. I seriously doubt I’ll restock the Amouage because this Opus Magnum is so well-made. It doesn’t reach the same quality or nuance levels, and it’s not a 1:1 match, but damn, it’s a joy. Incense, licorice, and sweetened tobacco. Projection is good to very good for two hours, with about 8 hours of longevity (being conservative). Anyway, it captivated me, especially given how little I expected. A real job well done by this Arab house.

  • Explosive licorice opening, very boozy, followed by a few minutes later by dry smoke—the kind you’d compare to cigarette ash. This phase lasts a bit longer, and gradually the rest of the notes emerge: basil, tobacco, and licorice take the lead, letting the others shine through perfectly. A great perfume with excellent evolution and outstanding performance. Challenging but addictive. Highly recommended for the price.

The resemblance to the original is striking, especially considering the massive price difference. That said, just like the original, it smells of ash, an ashtray, and nicotine (the gray bottle even reflects that).

  • I 100% agree with ZENOF; a perfect, flawless review. Just to add, it’s a pure licorice scent—exquisite, boozy, smoky, and semi-sweet—that slowly reveals tobacco notes over time. I don’t think it’s a good clone of Amouage’s, but as a perfume, it’s absolutely delicious and projects strongly for the first two hours. The intensity fades afterward, but it doesn’t disappear thanks to its excellent longevity. It stays in my collection because it’s unique and rich. For me, it’s not disruptive or difficult (though keep in mind that the only scents that turn me off are BR540 and ERBA PURA; just thinking about smelling them again makes me sick, so I wouldn’t recommend buying blind even though this worked out well for me). It doesn’t feel cheap or synthetic.

  • I subscribe to everything ZENOF said; he wrote a flawless and spot-on review, nothing to add, but I’d emphasize that this is primarily a licorice fragrance. An exquisite, boozy, smoky, and semi-sweet licorice that slowly reveals those tobacco notes over time. It doesn’t seem like a good clone of Amouage’s, but I love it as a perfume; it’s rich and delicious. Plus, it projects very well for the first two hours before losing intensity, though it doesn’t abandon you because it has great skin longevity. Yes, it stays in my collection because it’s unique and rich. Personally, I don’t see it as disruptive or difficult (but keep in mind that the only perfumes that turn me off are BR540 and ERBA PURA; just thinking about smelling them again makes me sick, so I can’t recommend buying blind even though this worked out well for me). It doesn’t feel cheap or synthetic.
