Onyx by Bejar

I’m one of those who enjoys feminine, mixed, and even masculine scents, but this smells so macho I kept it at home. I never wear it out; it’s just not my style, but it left me speechless. I can’t remember which brand it is—Bejar included it in his ‘vibrational perfumes’ line (no longer sold, but you can find it online for a steal). Following Josesán’s great review, I’ll add little more: it’s addictive, technically artificial but masterfully done, a rare potion with no equal. Note: it’s not for those seeking something modern. The great unknown of Spanish perfumery: Ramón Béjar. How can one dedicate time and money to making perfumes and then have such a distribution disaster? This budget line, right next to the luxury Molvizar collection, is almost invisible in Spain. It’s not groundbreaking, but the fragrances rival Bogart or Lapidus. ONYX by Béjar is aquatic, musky, and vibrational; supposedly, they extract essence from minerals like onyx to macerate the scent. The concept is poetic, almost alchemical, though I doubt the minerals smell like anything—they probably just convey well-being. The base is synthetic, featuring Givaudan’s Kephalis with hints of jasmine, rose, violet, and lavender, plus Gurjun resin, amber, and sandalwood. Key notes: musk, Calone (marine/ozone notes), and Iso E-Super (eternal longevity). It smells like open, oxygenated air. It’s cheap and lasts forever, but to me, it feels cold and unpleasant; I wouldn’t wear it two days in a row. If you like ozone, it’s pure gold. Hard to find because it’s discontinued.

It’s a scent I can’t quite define, but I absolutely love it. It smells of exotic woods, amber, and an aquatic note that ties it all together into something peculiar and exquisite. I’d never tried anything like this before; it’s simply extraordinary and lasts a long time, over 10 hours. If you find it, don’t hesitate—grab one. It’s very good.
