Nature by Yves Rocher was one of my first go-to fragrances, from when I was a little girl to almost a woman. I want to blend what I smelled yesterday with what I wore for years. As a child, opening it felt like discovering an incredible lushness, an overwhelming tenacity of moss refined by a perfect lily, with a density I rarely encounter. I love and defend Private Collection to the hilt because my introduction to a green floral with substance was this wonderful Nature. Wearing it felt like living in a mossy forest, dark, with streams after a heavy winter rain, a natural and slightly dangerous darkness. It added citrus highlights to soften it and flowers to lend tenderness and less dampness. Today, it’s an echo of what it once was, showing a desire to reach that dark part that always dominated. Its moss isn’t quite as thick anymore; it’s a forest affected by global warming that isn’t what it used to be. Nature had a trail that split the face off from 200 perfumes today that claim to be worth what they’re priced at. I’d give anything for a vintage bottle.

  • Green, oily, wet, and woody. It was the accessible option for women who didn’t want to spend a fortune on Dior, YSL, or Chanel, and the best part is that it smells amazing. A fatty green water, enchanting and very natural, for simple, cultured but not pretentious, kind women. They’re the ones who look stunning in a white shirt and nude lipstick, not because they’re the most beautiful, but because their eyes are full of light, curiosity, and serenity. It’s impossible for me to smell Nature without thinking of a teacher or a vocational mother, who never gets upset, has kind words, and cleans the house as if it were gold, even if she doesn’t have money. It’s simplicity and happiness in the form of a fragrance. The 90s version was fabulous, rich, almost palpable like flowers soaked in dew, green stems, vines, shadowy courtyards, and hand cream. One of the best from Yves Rocher, a house not found in encyclopedias but that allowed so many people to smell good for a fair price.

  • Yves Rocher gifted us these adorable Nature tins, reminiscent of Gal’s Vaseline jars but with a naiver touch, designed to carry the solid perfume. What a brilliant idea; nowadays, only luxury houses like Diptyque make them. I had one, and it was perfect for my bag to revive the scent as it started to fade. It brings me back to Titanic; after watching it, I bought Art Deco jewelry and dressed up to be extra feminine. Nature evoked a ray of sunlight filtering through a dark forest, illuminating a Kate Winslet in her black cape and incredible dresses. Today’s Nature isn’t even a shadow of what it was, but sometimes I smell it because it still wants to remind me of that era.
