The opening is pure passion fruit—sweet, aromatic, and indulgent, neither acidic nor metallic. After five minutes, it settles to blend with the other notes; I notice the watermelon (the lemon is almost nonexistent). What shines most is a blend of vanilla, peach, and raspberry. It’s exotic, very fruity, but not tropical. It’s not cloying, perhaps thanks to its moderate projection; the longevity is correct. What I love most is when the raspberry takes center stage. Many compare it to Dali’s Le Roy Soleil, and yes, there’s about a 50% similarity, especially in the dry down. Dali has that vintage musky vibe from the 90s, while this one, though also from the 90s, feels less so. The key difference is pineapple in Dali versus passion fruit here. Marina de Bourbon is rich, pleasant, easy to wear, unassuming yet undeniably good. I love the fruity trail it leaves on the skin.
I’m not a fan of fruity scents because they tend to be cloying or synthetic. This one surprised me. I detect tropical fruits, passion fruit, and watermelon over vanilla. It feels refined, fresh, sophisticated, and feminine without being loud. It doesn’t project for miles, but you definitely notice it.
Beautiful, but it doesn’t last long on my skin.
I bought it for a giveaway and smelled it in seconds; it was exquisite. It’s a juicy, classic sweetness that sounds like candied pineapple with citrus hints, like a compote. It has a sweet pine note that reminds me of Christmas and makes it very addictive. I don’t detect the jasmine, but I do smell the peach, though it’s not the star. I think it’s ideal for fall; in summer, it’s overwhelming due to its fruity nectar. It’s for special occasions, not everyday wear. The opening is potent, like a hug around the body, so be careful with extra sprays in enclosed spaces—it can get cloying. It has good sillage and projects well for about two hours, then fades, lasting around nine hours total. Give it a try; it’s not a vintage bomb, and for the price, you get a beautiful box and bottle.
My mom brought this home on a summer vacation, and the bottle is gorgeous, but to be honest, I didn’t like it at all. I only use it to get through the bottle quickly because I think my skin’s pH makes juicy fruits smell fermented; I love citrus, but not fruity scents. At first, it smells rich and sweet—I can’t tell if it’s pineapple or watermelon—but after five seconds, it turns metallic, like overripe fruit. Then it lingers in my mind all day, and I don’t enjoy it. Only one person told me it smelled like a little treat, so I guess everyone perceives it differently.
