Bought the fragrance and it hit me hard: smells almost identical to Polo Sport, but without that mentholated twist of the original. I like it, smells great.
Keeping my promise, here’s the full review. In a nutshell: soapy woods. Nothing Black about this. The name and bottle are quirky for something so clean and understated. I’ll stick with my Polo Sport comparison: although I haven’t smelled much of that scent, this one transports me straight to Lauren, minus the mint. Citrus opening, fresh and acidic, with cedar and sandalwood that last the whole ride. Fresh, clean, sparkling, slightly synthetic; maybe the most synthetic I’ve tried from FO. Reminds me of classic fougères but lighter and more modern, less sharp, with a slight sweetness like the old ones. The sweetness comes from the pineapple, subtle—not fruity but sweet and acidic; I think it blends with the sage. It’s camphoraceous, herbal, acidic, spicy, and bitter. The trail is moderate to low, no more than 1.5 meters, fading progressively until the two-hour mark. The heart is where it shines: the citrus is already minimal. Clean woodiness continues, paired with a very subtle jasmine that gives an incredible spring-like freshness, clean and floral. Pity that the projection drops to a meter here, very intimate (3rd and 4th hour). Dry down is a skin-close fougère woodiness (6th hour). Amber? Maybe that sense of cleanliness, but far from cloying. Performance is moderate, discreet for a Parisian house. Trail lasts 2-3 hours, longevity 6-7 hours. Weather: daytime, spring-like. Nothing for night, except a casual outing in heat if you don’t want to draw attention. Maybe autumn. Nothing for winter, lacks punch. Medium to warm seasons. Nothing elegant, ideal for casual or semi-casual wear to smell clean without calling attention. Very sporty. Maybe it’s your signature scent if you don’t mind the synthetic vibe and low projection. Scent: 7/10 (clean, synthetic but pleasant, hard to dislike). Performance: 6.5/10 (6 hours, projection 2-3 hours, max 1.5m if generous, doesn’t rise much unless the sun hits you). Versatility: 6/10 (not for parties, ideal for casual/sport). Price: 10/10 (close to $17, 11,000 Chilean pesos at Zofri). Final note 7/10. I was looking for something clean and found it. I’d prefer more performance and less synthetic, but for the price, it’s fine, maybe I’ll replace it soon.
Just bought it. At first, it reminded me 90% of Polo Sport memories. My dad only had three perfumes at a time; he wasn’t a fan but liked to smell something and adored Polo. When I was 5-6, I smelled the classic green and the Sport; this scent teleports me back to smelling the cap of the empty bottle my dad kept. I’m a beginner, interested for two months now. On the opening (a bit alcoholic at first), I sense woods, citrus, and balanced herbal notes, with a sweet undertone: an acidic-sweet pineapple that works with the amber. Woods and citrus are well-balanced from the start: not old winter wood, but bright, with a touch of maturity and a clean, refreshing herbal note (sage and jasmine) that pairs well with the citrus. Over time, the woods take over the citrus. For now, it seems very versatile. I wouldn’t use it on a cold night or a hot day. Slight synthetic touch. Casual, semi-casual, not formal. Maybe at the gym since it’s fresh, despite being named In Black. I like it! Will update with heart and dry-down notes, waiting for the perfect day. I’m from northern Chile; now it’s winter, 15-16 degrees, humid, coastal city.
The bottle is attractive enough to try. It has pineapple, a note I’ve never tried that smells very fresh, so curiosity strikes.
