It opens with a hit of dirty woody lavender and lots of cypriol giving it a balsamic aura. Projects a meter and a half, very pleasant, suspiciously so for what’s usually around oud; you only notice that dirty spot if you get very close. The beauty is the contrast: the caramel-oud of Kemi could have been heavy, but here it isn’t. The balance between lavender, oud, and bitter orange is exactly where it should be, making it fresh yet very sustained. There are two types of masters: those who create worlds like Tauer or Gualtieri, and the architects of balance like Maurice or Mateu. In Hayat, the proportions and quality are correct. Medium constant projection (one to one and a half meters), perfect: you feel it all the time without being invasive. Lasts 12h+, you still smell it; in the last hours, lavender predominates over the wood, which is unusual. Very good perfume, balanced, better than Kemi by Kemi. Medium versatility and high price. Scent: 10/10, Longevity: 8.5/10, Projection: 7.8/10, Emotional: Yes, Originality: 8/10, Price: 340€/100ml. Recommended: Medium-High (on Black Friday).
I agree with the previous review; for those looking for an idea, it’s a wilder Oud Wood from Tom Ford. With greater longevity and sillage. I see it more for cold climates. A side note: the presentation is 10/10.
Mr. Perfume, a masterpiece by Chris Maurice. I used to roast Xerjoff for some tests that left a ‘nahhhh’, but this creation (the now-discontinued KEMI line) is art. It shares similarities with Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, but here the wood handling is impeccable. You smell lavender and cardamomo, but the oud is the star. It doesn’t smell animalic (IMO) and is very wearable. Excellent performance, lasts all day, and projects almost a meter. Highly recommended; if you get the chance, do it, because it will disappear (does everything good get discontinued?).
Quality oud, very similar to Zafar with hints of Ceylon (like Xerjoff Oud Stars). It’s a spicy, woody blend with extreme versatility: works in heat and never fails in winter. Master Carbonel has gifted us one of the best oud versions. In my opinion, it’s lightyears ahead of Tom Ford, even though people associate it with cardamom. If Oud Wood is decaf instant coffee, Hayat is a freshly ground espresso with Italian foam. Compared to the new Xerjoff K Hayat: the Xerjoff bottle is prettier and the atomizer is the same. The scent is practically identical, but Kemi is more citrusy and spicy, while Xerjoff loads more cedar and has less orange and lavender. Mid-stage and dry-down are identical. The only difference is Kemi shines brighter while Xerjoff feels more woody. Performance is identical; nothing has changed.
I love it, but I wouldn’t buy it due to its low versatility and price. It opens with a punch of dark, spicy oud that can be intimidating; the citrus and floral notes are barely noticeable. Once dried, it’s kinder, but the oud remains strong. Optimal performance comes from the patchouli and cypriol making it bearable. From start to finish, it’s earthy. It’s a fish out of water in cold nights, taking you to deep, dark places. I don’t see it for dinners, enclosed spaces, or the office. Although it’s an outstanding scent, I’d use it sparingly. Projects well and lasts over 8 hours. No downsides.
This is true niche, not for everyone. Right out of the bottle, that blend of oud and bitter orange smells a bit like a stable, but by the time it dries down, it’s powerful yet wearable in winter. The oud is alive but softer. For me, it doesn’t quite reach Tom Ford’s Oud Wood; either it lacks oud or the quality falls short, though this one is more wearable. Top-tier perfume, but hard to use daily. Ideal for enjoying in solitude. Lasts over 8 hours with great sillage. High price, but if the oud is good, it’s justified. Rating: 6.5-10/10.
