If you don’t like fig, forget it. It’s obvious, but it bears saying: it smells like fig blossom and its ripe fruit, right before it’s about to fall. It evokes village holidays, eternal summer days, and even an afternoon in Greece among the fig trees. It starts with a green fig, creamy and juicy, as if you could bite into it. Over time, it becomes sweeter and woody, drying down with a clean, musky touch. Although it’s an eau de parfum, its freshness feels more like a body mist. It’s not identical to the EDT, but its greenness is similar. It’s a precious fragrance that awakens different sensations in each person. My only complaint is its weak development, though I don’t mind. R&G also has creams and soaps with this scent, a tradition that’s disappearing. Ideal for spring and summer, with a moderate trail lasting six to eight hours. I love that they use real names; if it says fig, it smells like fig, no brand gimmicks with unnecessary editions.

What an exquisite aroma! It’s the most representative and natural scent of the fig tree, its leaves and fruits. I know what I’m talking about because in summer in my hometown, it’s typical to have these trees or borrow some figs for dessert. During my July and August vacations, the last figues de la goutte are the best. This perfume opens sweet and slightly acidic, like the fruit dripping with honey, and as it dries, it turns green and fresh, as if you were under the tree picking the fruit. It’s super natural. It’s not a scent bomb, but I don’t care; I enjoy it. I bought it in France on a rainy day, and it transported me back to my Mediterranean summers at the country house. For me, it has moderate trail and projection. It’s my favorite from the house, and I hope it never runs out. A jewel.

I bought this perfume blind on sale since I tried its EDT sibling and liked it, but found it too fleeting. I thought this would last longer, and it has; it holds up better. The scent is different: sweeter and denser, though Fragrantica has separate profiles for each. It conquered me just the same and has become my fig perfume. It’s green, woody, and gourmand all at once, with realistic notes of leaves, fruit, and nectar, all swayed by a patchouli touch and sweetened woods. It has the sweetness of fig without being cloying. The bottle is pretty, made of heavy, functional glass, with a hexagonal shape instead of square. The purple box and label already hint at the secrets; if this fragrance had a color, it would be purple. It’s a shame it’s discontinued.

What’s up with Roger & Gallet? They’ve discontinued great recent creations, like this Fleur de Figuier Eau de Parfum I’ll miss, and many of their fresh waters like Feuille de Figuier. Out of their nine colognes from the last four years, only three have survived: tea, neroli, and ginger. After checking their website and searching the city without success, I’ve only found the scented body water and various skincare products, which is appreciated for the scarcity. I also wanted to try the Cassis Frénésie extract, but there was no way. Some can still be found in a few online stores, but I don’t know how long they’ll last. I suppose the cuts are L’Oréal’s fault; what a disappointment.
