О Жен (Eau Jeune), a Straightforward Aromatic from 1977

О Жен (Eau Jeune) by Новая Заря (The New Dawn) is one of those quiet classics that clearly reflects its era. Released in 1977 in the aromatic family for men, it favors a direct, unfussy kind of freshness.

The idea is easy to grasp: a bright citrus start, a clean middle, and a soft base. A short formula that feels familiar and simple to wear.

The opening brings together bergamot, mandarin, and lime. It is luminous with a light green edge, the tart lift waking things up without turning sharp.

The heart pairs jasmine, lavender, and galbanum. Lavender gives that tidy aromatic character, jasmine smooths it with a white floral touch, and galbanum adds a faintly resinous green note.

The base rests on woody notes and musk. The wood supports without taking over, while the musk leaves a clean-skin impression that stays low-key and calm.

Overall it sits between citrus, fresh spicy, white floral, aromatic, and woody tones. Rather than bold contrast, it aims for balance: lift at the top, order in the center, gentle warmth at the end.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 from 646 ratings, it keeps the respect of fans of traditional profiles. It works as a morning or office scent in mild weather, when you want to smell clean without filling the room.

It will appeal to men who like traditional aromatics and citrus centered on lavender with a musky base. Also to collectors of classic perfumery who enjoy short, functional compositions.

О Жен (Eau Jeune) does not try to surprise; it tries to get it right. A citrusy, aromatic, woody scent true to 1977 that remains an honest, wearable option.

@ladamedenoir: Nice to meet you (and thanks for the clarification) ^^ I’ve been reading your reviews for a couple of years and today you tag me 🙂 here we are, in nostalgic mode!! Wow I didn’t know about the Soviet market and the clones, honestly, but I loved learning about it! I considered the possibility that this listing was the usual senseurs fraiche with a terrible bottle redesign for the Soviet public… but yes, I noticed it’s an ugly bottle with an ugly cap and notes that didn’t ring a bell haha It really bothers me that Fragrantica doesn’t have listings for vintage perfumes, or rather, some yes and others no. I miss so many perfumes from dana, myrurgia, puig from the 80s, 90s so much that I would have settled for reading listings and reviews :_) Of this one (well, not the Soviet one XDDD) I have the mini splash version of the original, the later spray version with the cap and the eye-shaped bottle, translucent bottle, dark green cap, which I keep like gold (and which doesn’t last at all), and the current version that leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, I have many vintage ones from the era, some from eau jeune, but this one seems impossible to clone decently, what a shame! The closest is Limette 37 by Le Labo. But nothing is the same… maybe it’s because of how synthetic everything is nowadays. I’ll follow you and if you want to chat about perfumes or share all that perfume knowledge, I’m here 😀 Greetings!

:O I can’t believe there are no reviews for, probably, the most mythical fresh women’s cologne in history. The ad was repeated many times year after year with small variations, it was the signature scent of so many women from the 70s, 80s, 90s to later editions… Currently it’s hard to find, almost impossible, except for the modern version from the same eau jeune house but with fleeting longevity and not a shadow of what it was. I wish the original eau jeune ones would come back because they were gems!
