Another gem from MOLINARD, a brand that never ceases to surprise. MOLINARD goes its own way, against the grain, with exemplary honesty. CHYPRE D’ORIENT is a Chypre and Floral, but without being overwhelmed by the florals. In fact, I’d define it as a Citrus-Chypre-Floral, because its hesperidic facet is just as prominent, if not more so, than the floral. I’m sure it has an undeclared aldehydic touch that accentuates the sparkling freshness of mandarin, bergamot, and neroli. Throughout the perfume’s life, this citrus accord remains very present, never losing its pungent acidity. It’s not a fragrance with aromatic evolution; its scent barely changes once the flowers settle with the citrus. I love the floral tone of CHYPRE D’ORIENT because it’s neither white floral nor indolic nor animalic. The flowers present are green and slightly resinous. Galbanum sets the gum-resinous tone, with its touch of freshly cut grass and alpine turpentine. Galbanum is what “chypres” CHYPRE D’ORIENT, giving it the defining resinous and labdanum note of Chypres. And it’s precisely this note of low-lying shrubs and sticky resin that I love most in Chypres. That’s what makes CHYPRE D’ORIENT so unisex. Like many MOLINARD perfumes, this one goes its own way, outside of trends and conventions. For those who enjoy Green Chypres, it’s a great option. It has above-average longevity, with a very noticeable sillage that evokes freshness, cleanliness, cheerfulness, and smoothness on the skin. Yes, exactly as you hear it: smoothness on the skin. And don’t ask me what that means, because there are things that can’t be explained. You just have to feel them.
