About Cathedral of Ruins
Cathedral of Ruins: Smoke, Cypress and Quiet Woods
Fulton & Roark launched Cathedral of Ruins in 2026 as a unisex woody oriental. Created by perfumer Kevin Scozzaro, it balances cool green freshness against deep resinous warmth.
The effect is restrained and solemn, moving from peppery cypress and dry rose through a balsamic core toward incense, wood and clean musk.
The opening pairs cypress, black pepper and rose. Cypress brings an aromatic, slightly resinous green tone, black pepper adds a dry spark, and the rose stays spare rather than velvety, softening the edges without sweetening them.
At the heart, saffron meets Peru balsam. Saffron lends a warm, leathery-spicy touch with a faint medicinal edge, while Peru balsam wraps it in dark, rounded sweetness that bridges the top and the base.
The drydown centers on incense, woody notes and musk. The incense feels dry and mineral, more reflective than smoky, the woods give backbone, and the musk leaves a soft, skin-like veil.
Overall the scent reads woody, balsamic and ambery, with fresh-spicy and warm-spicy facets. There is also a whisper of faded roses, muted musk and an aromatic coolness that suggests cold stone and old timber.
It wears close and unfolds in layers, favoring calm moments and cooler weather. When the air is still, the contrast between green brightness and resinous depth comes through most clearly.
It will appeal to fans of unisex woody orientals, dry incense and unsweetened rose. A good fit if you want something meditative, polished and characterful, far from gourmand or bright citrus styles.
Cathedral of Ruins shows Fulton & Roark at its most disciplined, treating noble materials with restraint. Solemn up top and resinous at the base, it leaves a trail of wood, incense and skin that invites a second wear.
