Descripción
Barry Lyndon by Maria Candida Gentile is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men and women. This composition was launched in 2010 under the olfactory direction of Maria Candida Gentile. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with grass top notes and green accents; the heart reveals heather, hyssop, and arnica; while the base anchors the structure with leather, vetiver, and vanilla.

Another favorite from Maria Candida’s classic collection. Herbal green notes like absinthe blended with a sweet anise touch, revolving around leather. Perhaps a very subtle vetiver lingers in the background. In short, it’s a green-aromatic scent with a leather base. Tremendously original and well-blended, with excellent quality as is standard for this house. It’s not heavy, but easy to wear—fresh and airy, typical of Italian perfumery and this brand, without falling into excessive volatility. Sillage and longevity are moderate, around 6 hours. A different and exquisite experience. Highly recommended.
I want to add something to my review: it’s not for leather lovers, and I’m absolutely not one of them (I hate that note in fragrances). It’s one of the few that features leather centrally, and I appreciate that because it’s very soft. If you’re a fan of Tuscan Leather or Rien, you’ll probably be disappointed. It’s a green fragrance with many nuances and a semi-sweet touch, anchored in soft leather. It evokes the image of Irish adventurer Redmond Barry riding through the green countryside, just like in Kubrick’s film.
To be honest, it’s not my style. The notes are a bit misleading because the opening isn’t fresh as you’d expect; it smells rancid, old, and heavy. I didn’t know the pyramid, but I saw that over time it softens a bit (it doesn’t really sweeten, though we assume the vanilla adds something sweet). Now that I see the notes, it must be the vanilla effect. I should also say that some combinations brought me vague memories of Issey Miyake Nuit Parfum, which I do recommend for quality and price, but not this EDT. Although I like this phase more, it has no place on my shelf. The performance seems weak at first, but ends up being average: about 7 hours at medium projection.
Barry Lyndon is one of those perfumes that either hook you or make you want to throw it away; I was in the latter camp at first until I ended up loving it. At first, I didn’t get it: it’s herbal and green, but with a bitter twist that isn’t typical freshness. The leather is very in the background, subtle and uncommon. In the end, you can detect vetiver and woods like cedar, though I don’t pick up any vanilla. I see it as 100% masculine and usable in any weather. The downside is that it doesn’t have much projection; although it lasts hours, it clings to the skin very quickly. The good thing is that if you like it, the price is decent. In the end, that bitter aftertaste became addictive, and I loved those dry, subtle green notes. But once I finished my decant, I don’t think I’ll repurchase.
