  An exciting creation by Laurent Mazzone that draws you in like a siren’s song. Army of Lovers is mostly a floral musk. Lorenzo Villoresi has a chaste, sweet, and innocent musky fragrance, so Army of Lovers is like its perverse, dirty, decadent sister. It’s not an animal musk on its own, but a sensation created by an ingredient that generates a perception of naked skin clinging to the musk with a bit of honey, a totally carnal feeling, like smelling skin with cinnamon tones. This whole body is dressed in an exuberant corset of fleshy roses and a brazen violet scent darkened and sweetened by patchouli and coriander. You’ll wear this dress for a couple of hours at first, but gradually you’ll shed it until only the musky sensation remains. It’s a peculiar fragrance, absolutely not for everyone’s liking, and given its prohibitive price, you need to feel very drawn to it to buy it. Personally, it reminds me a bit of the image Etat Libre d’Orange tries to convey with its ‘True Lust Rayon Violet De Ses Yeux’, especially when smelling it on blotting paper, where you can detect plastic notes that sit halfway between leather and wood; in my case, this scent disappears when worn on skin, so I’m fine with the synthetic smell vanishing, but I miss the leather effect. Laurent Mazzone sells it as an ‘extrait de parfum’, and while it is potent, it’s not exaggerated, lasting between 8 and 10 hours.
