About Ambre Stone de L’Atelier
Ambre Stone by L’Atelier is an olfactory creation from the Maison L’Atelier Francais Des Matieres, belonging to the oriental floral family, designed for men and women. Launched in 2017, this fragrance reveals an olfactory pyramid where the top notes unfold a mineral and earthy accord that introduces the essence of stone. The heart of the composition intertwines exotic flowers and warm spices, adding floral depth and spiciness. Finally, the base notes settle into a rich, silky amber, enveloping the wearer in a warm, lasting trail that evokes the luminosity of the rock under the sun.

Starts with bitter citrus notes, nothing sweet, and that first blast brings the scent of a full stomach from real ambergris, though it fades in under 20 seconds to make way for the citrus. Even though the label only lists bergamot, it smells like there’s also lime and grapefruit; it reminds me a lot of the opening of Burlington 1819 with that extra touch of ambergris. The citrus is dense and powerful, nothing ethereal, and projects and lasts longer than usual, driven by white flowers (neroli and a slightly indolic jasmine) and woods featuring a very neutral patchouli—nothing earthy, chocolatey, or dirty—and with sandalwood fairly in the background. The citrus, then the flowers, and finally the woods fade one after another, leaving on the skin the magic of the ambergris, which no longer smells bad but gives a creamy, bright sensation that’s hard to explain. This ambergris, always close to the skin, is very tenacious and sticks around for hours, even surviving a shower with scrubbing. In that regard, it reminds me of the one in Dionysus by TT, but this AS version seems to be of better quality; in fact, it’s the same as the one in the final phase of Ambre Supreme by LI, since they’re sister houses and share materials. For me, it’s the perfect unisex scent for spring or summer, though I still need to test it in autumn and winter because sometimes these perfumes surprise in the cold. EDIT 23-7-24: After three months, I no longer notice that vomit-like smell of the ambergris in the opening; it seems the perfume keeps evolving over time and is now more velvety in texture.
