Alahine is very feminine, delicate, and sophisticated—nothing invasive. It’s perfect for those looking for appreciable fragrances that aren’t too intense. You wear it and feel like you’re in a cloud of pure well-being. It evokes something pleasant and refined. You can appreciate the base florals, but the most noticeable note is the benzoin. The bergamot isn’t very prominent at first, but the ylang-ylang is. On me, it’s quite talcum-powdered and ambered, very classy. I love it because it’s not heavy; it’s elegant for everyday wear. I see it fitting any age and it pairs well with cold weather, though it also works for spring or cool summer evenings. The vanilla is very subtle, nothing cloying, perfectly balanced. The bottle is a dream. This and Café Cabanel are my absolute favorite women’s scents from this French house.
My sample set just arrived and I haven’t tried them all yet, but I can already tell which ones are going to work for me. This is one of my favorites so far, it’s holding up well, and I think I’m going to love it.
I’m a Teo Cabanel fan, but Alahine has been my biggest disappointment. I read thousands of great reviews, yet on my skin it smells weird, like pickles in vinegar. I don’t get it. Once that strange opening fades, I do notice the floral, yellow note with pepper and patchouli. As it dries, it has that warm, woody, vanilla-like quality people usually love, but that initial scent never goes away and, unfortunately, makes me enjoy it not at all. I don’t know if my sample is bad (the rest of the set smells fine) or if it’s reacting horribly with my skin, but I hated it and don’t recommend buying it blind.
